RUTH RANSON
August 3, 1935 February 18, 2021
Mom was born and raised in Beausejour, MB and was the second youngest of six children. As a young woman she moved to Winnipeg and worked for several years as a teller with the Royal Bank at Main and Selkirk. In 1955 she married Ken Ranson and soon after began her family. She was a very dedicated mother and when her children were older, she enjoyed her independence working part time at the post office for several years. Mom excelled at cooking and entertaining and always had a hearty meal waiting for anyone who walked through the door. Holiday events were always special to her, and there was no shortage of chairs for family and friends to gather around the table. You could never leave without being overfed and being sent home with a care package.
In retirement, she and Ken took numerous cruises and travelled the world extensively. Her favourite place was visiting Jesus' birthplace in Bethlehem and she often joked that while in Egypt it was free to ride a camel, but $50 to get off!
Mom was proud of her children's careers and loved to follow her son Ken Jr. around Canada and the US, while he competed in snowmobile racing. She also cherished her time with her five grandchildren and never missed a school event or concert. This included childcare, so that her daughters could continue in their careers. For the past 15 years she greatly appreciated the love and support of her son Ken Jr. as he addressed her every need.
She was proud of her independence and living in her home till this past November. She loved gardening and caring for her yard, enjoyed an apple under her beloved apple tree, and often visited neighbours. She felt like a queen still driving at the age of 85, taking her Buick LeSabre to shop at her favourite stores and visiting the ladies at the bank. She even hid a few speeding tickets from Ken Jr.
Mourning her passing are children, Ken Jr./Tim (Kim); Brenda (Bill), Carolyn (Bill), and her ex-husband Ken Sr., grandchildren, Rosa (Ryan), Michael, Jacqueline (Brett), Kathleen (Kirill) and Christine; five great- grandchildren; brother Gary; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Donna; parents, Ludwig and Matilda; sisters, Herta, Ann and Elsie, and brother Eric.
Mom's health was failing and she entered Seven Oaks Hospital in November 2020. She had several ailments, eventually leukemia and then fell victim to a Covid-19 outbreak.
Graveside service will be held at Chapel Lawn on Friday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m. Covid restrictions will be followed. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

My deepest condolences to Ruth’s family. Have known the family since my youth and always was treated with friendship and respect from Ruth. I was very touched when Ruth and Ken Sr both attended my Mothers funeral as my Mom was also a longtime friend. - Posted by: Leonard Turton (Friend ) on: Jul 11, 2021

Very sorry for your loss in these particularly difficuIt times. Your mom had the greatest smile. I can still see her standing on your front steps laughing and smiling with the neighborhood kids and inevitably offering treats. Clifton Street was a great place to grow up because of people like her. - Posted by: Sheila Ozamoto (Former Neighbour) on: Mar 01, 2021

The Ransons have been a fixture of the neighbourhood at least as far back as when our Family (Peter and Mary Kowal and 4 kids Emil, Darlene, Zane and John/Johnny) moved in 1967. My parents (both deceased now) would take the time to talk to neighbours and enjoy each others Company even if only in passing an older custome that Ruth kept maintaining right up throughout Her life. When I was a child I was Ken’s age and we were in some of the same social circles for a while, I remember attending birthday parties in Ranson House. Is was perfectly maintained and She was very well dressed for the occasion Her presence to a child could seem quite formidable, but Her winning big heart and smile set one at ease. Her passing at 85 reminds me of my Fathers passing in 2007 When He was 85 as well. While sadness for Ourselves over a family member and especially Our Parents We must not forget to Celebrate the natural passage of a life lived as best as possible and keep All the Good Memories Alive into Eternity. Ruth was a very caring and generous soul. I grew up several doors down the street and delivered the Free Press to the Ransons. She was very kind and always made me feel welcome in her home. Later on when visiting my parents I would always stop to say hello when I saw her down the lane and she would take an interest in your family. Such a strong and caring lady my thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Garen Pheifer (Neighbour) on: Feb 25, 2021
