News of Marie’s illness and ultimately her passing tremendously impacted me. Her positivity, humour and kind demeanour are the takeaways that will always remain close at heart for me. I have very fond lifelong memories of Marie. From an early age, I always enjoyed visiting the Peterson household with my parents and sister. The Peterson house always seemed to ripple with energy. Marie always took the time to say a special hello and even as a teenager, she seemed to take a genuine interest in the lives of all those around her - a quality that would define her throughout her life. When my sister Charmaine was preparing her wedding, she enlisted me (unsuspecting teen at the time) to be a bartender and server at her wedding shower. I distinctly recall Marie that day. She was having such a good time with friends and other family members at the event. She was absolutely glowing. I relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan a number of years ago. A few years back, I was happily surprised to pick up the ringing phone to hear Marie’s friendly voice. She and Russell were passing through on their way back to Winnipeg on the tail end of a road trip and she was hoping that we could connect. My spouse Joanne and I had a wonderful evening outing with them. Most recently, Marie reached out to me on the very day my beloved father passed away, just a few days before Christmas 2019. When answering the phone, Marie began the conversation by offering her condolences and then detailing that she did not know what to say, but that she was there, there to listen. What followed was a wonderful talk about dad at a time when I was numb and shattered. I will never forget that conversation with Marie. Gutsy, loving and ‘there’ - she exuded class. Whereas she was so quick at reaching out as explained above, my own personality differs. I internalize deeply and process over time. Thoughts of Marie and family have been with me many times since she passed away. I certainly owe it to her to document these thoughts and feelings given the very positive impact that she has left with me. I will always greatly miss her. - Posted by: Richard Robert (Cousin) on: Jun 27, 2021
