HENRIETTA BRAUN
(nee KEHLER)

Our Mom, Henrietta Braun (nee Kehler), was born on July 22, 1934 in Neubergthal, Manitoba. She passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021, at 86 years of age, at the Emerson Care Home, where she had been a resident since July of 2020.
She and dad, David A. Braun, were married on June 12, 1954. In 1957, they were baptized together in the Altona Bergthaler Church. They had eight children; Loren (Suzanne), Cliff, Brad (Karen), Don (Laura), Vera (Conrad) Voth, Verna (Wes) Schroeder, Ramona (Bill) Henschel, and Bruce (Leanne), as well as 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. They lived in Neubergthal for about 20 years, and raised their family there before moving to Altona in 1977.
Mom was predeceased by dad in March of 1995, after 40 years of marriage, as well as by three brothers. She is survived by all her children and their families, two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
The years spent in Neubergthal were very busy. Looking after a growing family, helping on the family farm and the grain bin business took most of her time. Later, she worked out of the home at various places including the hospital, Four Winds Motel and the Motor Hotel. With all this going on, there was still time to follow her kids in sports. She was never shy about giving advice or questioning officiating. By the time grandkids came along and were involved in sports, she had more time, and there were rewards for good play and achievements. Lots of pies and baked goods for goals, home runs, and good play.
Mom was an avid reader and enjoyed word search puzzles. She felt this was a way to keep her mind sharp. She also loved to go for coffee, or drive out to where she grew up and raised the family. She would frequently ask what was new in the village and reminisce about times growing up there.
In January 2019, we moved Mom into the Ebenezer Manor. This was not going to be a long stay, however. By October, her health declined to the point where it was too much for her to manage on her own, and she became a permanent resident at the hospital until finding placement in a care home this past July.
The circumstances of the past year were hard for Mom. Too many moves and changes, and so many restrictions! She and many others have missed out on quality time with family, especially at this stage of life. But, as she often said, "This to shall pass, and life be sweeter". Mom, we will think of you often and miss you always!
A family graveside service was held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Neubergthal cemetery.
Special thanks to the staff at Emerson Care Home for the care they provided for our Mom, and to Trevor at Wiebe Funeral Home, Altona.
