LORRAINE J. TINCKAM
(née ARNAL)
September 10, 1935 - August 2, 2021
Lorraine passed away peacefully in her 86th year after a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her husband Mervyn in 2001, 14 siblings and her stepchildren, Cynthia and Michael. Her memory is cherished by her daughter Kathryn (Takashi), grandchildren, Norah and Henry, stepdaughter Pam, and as 'Meme' to Jeremy (Melissa) and Greg (Michelle) and their children. She is remembered with love by her sister Rita Albert, brother Richard Arnal, beloved niece Louise Helbig, her 'special girls', Carole Tanguay, Joanne Rivard and Mina McCallum, and countless friends and family members around the world.
Lorraine was born in Fannystelle, Manitoba to Bertha and Almir Arnal, the 15th of 17 children and attended St. Joseph's Academy. She moved to Winnipeg as a young woman, working as a computer operator in the era when few women did such things. She met Mervyn in 1971 and they married shortly after, settling in his hometown of Sydney, Australia. They moved back to Winnipeg permanently in 1988 where Lorraine later retired after years as an educational assistant. Lorraine's culinary and entertaining skills were legendary, and she delighted in hosting magnificent feasts at every opportunity - the larger the party, the better! Known for her magic touch with young children, and always there to lend a hand when most needed, generations of family and friends were comforted knowing they could always just "Ask Aunty 'Raine'" for her wisdom. Following Mervyn's death in 2001 she moved to her condo, loving the view of the river and her gorgeous balcony garden, and delighting in hosting dinners and card games for every occasion, and enriching the extended social community with her energy and love of people.
Lorraine's family would like to especially thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their compassionate and person-centered care, especially Dr. Heather Adam, Chaplain Paul Peters Derry and the entire team on 5South, and her dear friend Louise Thurston for her support.
In accordance with Lorraine's wishes, no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation.

Our hearts are heavy hearing of Lorraine's passing. Always a smile, always an observation, she was a pleasure to have as a neighbour and friend. The weekly card games will be missed more than you know but we hope she's showing them how to do it right in heaven. I met Lorraine about 4 years ago after we moved into the condo complex. We had great discussions about Trump and what are thoughts were. I found her to be a very intelligent women who was up on her current affairs. We were always in agreement and saw life in the same way. We didn’t know that Lorraine had taken ill and felt extremely sad when we heard she had passed. She will be truly missed. - Posted by: George Murray (Friend from the Condo Unit) on: Aug 07, 2021
