TERRI-LYNN PROULX
(MILNE)

Surrounded by family, Terri-Lynn Proulx passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2021, after succumbing to the injuries from a tragic accident.
Terri was born in Calgary on April 1, 1968 to Renee (Fontaine) and Ian Milne. She was the youngest of five children, her sisters, Colleen and Kim, and brothers, Scott and Jamie. British Columbia was her home for many years, living in Surrey, Nelson and Sooke.
In 1990, she married Jim Proulx and they had two children, Jarret and Jacqueline - the pride and joy of her life. She and her family moved to Winnipeg and lived on Montrose Street for many years. Terri loved being a mom and was actively involved in coaching and managing their soccer and hockey teams, the parent councils at their schools, and regular weekend camping trips to the Whiteshell.
She met her current spouse, Tom Simms, in 2012. She was greatly respected and loved by Tom's daughter Laura, and mother Violet Simms.
Terri had many passions in her life. Family was her number one priority, especially involving her many nieces and nephews. Gazing at the moon and stars was a favourite past-time, along with her love of nature. Terri would always have a house full of pets - dogs, cats, birds and fish. Her most recent cat, Mainnerd, provided her with much joy and happiness. Neeks and Deke were dogs she had over the years that were beloved members of her family. Each summer she looked forward to having a beautiful garden and enjoyed sharing her home-grown vegetables with family, friends and neighbours. She was an avid reader and loved to run, swim and have regular fitness work-outs. She lived her life with a deep spirit of kindness, laughter and humour, and a strong commitment to social justice.
For a number of years she owned a restaurant and then spent some time working in the human resource department at a local cleaning company. Ultimately, Terri's career passion was in the cooperative movement, organizing worker co-ops and housing co-ops while at SEED Winnipeg and later with the government of Manitoba.
A celebration of Terri's life will take place on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sinclair Park Community Centre, 490 Sinclair Street.
Anyone wishing to donate in memory of Terri are asked to make it to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Terri was a person passionate about her causes. I remember how happy she was when she found an adoptive parent for a stray cat that she had worked so hard to coax out of it's fears of people. I had a very bad feeling when she disappeared of the radar. I am so sorry for Tom and the emptiness he must feel right now. Of course for her animals, too. She was passionate about all animals and the philosophy of Co-ops. Terri, I hope there are many animals where your spirit lies now. The animal world lost someone very special in you. Catch phrase for her, "Are you a dog person or a cat person?" The trick was, she expected the answer to be both. - Posted by: Wesley Mann (Friend) on: Oct 02, 2021

  • I always loved to see Terri's name on the participants' list whenever I was heading to a conference or a meeting, whether CCEDNet, CWCF, or any of the many other community-minded acronyms. Terri was such a positive presence and her energy and insight put a smile on many faces. I remember sharing meals, intense conversations, analysis of co-op troubleshooting. When Terri told me that she was going to be doing co-operative CED for the Government of Manitoba, I thought "Lucky Manitoba!". It's such a shock to learn that someone so full of life and goodwill has passed away. Rest in Peace, Terri-Lynn. It was such a pleasure knowing you. "Lucky Afterlife!" - Posted by: David Lobie Daughton (Co-op colleague and old pal) on: Sep 12, 2021

  • Terri was our go-to staffer at SEED Winnipeg. I took the Worker Co-op workshop *twice*, and met with her countless times while struggling through the 'start-up' years. Terri's endless patience and limitless cheer was phenomenal! And at the various Community Economic Development events, I always felt that I had this one, singular, 'Best Friend Ever' to talk to. I brag about how my working life allowed me to work for or with some of Winnipeg's finest human beings. Terri was one of the best of those. Her generous smile will be with me forever. My deepest sympathies to family and friends. - Posted by: David Henry (Former client) on: Sep 08, 2021

  • Terri was such a fun friend and colleague. Always smiling and laughing. Always seeing the truth about our society. Always helping people. She loved a good road trip, seeing live music and exploring new places. She really loved co-ops and being a champion for them. Condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Chris McCarville (Friend) on: Sep 05, 2021
