JUDITH PUTTER
Judith also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews across the Putter, Sabourin, Shinewald, Stevens and Johnson families, as well as many wonderful friends and close neighbours. She was predeceased by her sister Sharon Shinewald; her parents, Joseph and Rochelle Putter; and her grandparents, Levi and Fanny Sommer and Sender and Chaya Putter. She was also a loving dog owner to Mickey, Malka and Laila.
Judith was born in Montreal on September 2, 1948 and spent significant time as a younger adult in Haifa, Israel and in Calgary, but lived most of her life in Winnipeg, which she loved. She combined her CA designation with her passion for fine arts as the proprietor of the Thomas Gallery and then later became a successful consultant with Investors Group. Judith was deeply passionate about the arts, was a voracious reader and a dedicated volunteer in Winnipeg's Jewish and broader communities. She lived an extremely healthy life centred around family, friends and the arts and never cared about (or even noticed) the latest trend. She barely ever watched television.
Judith passed away from cancer on September 19, 2021. Her family thanks all the wonderful teams at the hospitals where she spent her final weeks and, in particular, her cousin Dr. Hillel Sommer.
Judith's funeral will be graveside at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park and will also be live-streamed at 11:30 a.m. on September 23. Her family requests that anyone who comes in person be double vaccinated and wear a mask.
Kindly consider honouring Judith's memory by donating to the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre, on whose board Judith sat, or to the Judith Putter Women's Endowment Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
Judith was one-of-a-kind. She was a great sister, aunt and friend. She is already deeply missed by her community - and always will be.

I was sad and surprised to hear about Judith's illness and passing. I walked with Judith and our dogs around the neighborhood and spoke about various topics other than her health. I did not have a chance to say goodbye. Judith will be missed. Michelle & Griffin - Posted by: Michelle Long (Dog walker) on: Oct 06, 2021

I'm so sorry to know about Judith's death. Judith was a volunteer at Rady JCC day care few years ago, before she got sick; she came to teach Yoga to the kids; they loved her! Even when she was sick she used to exercise always with her positive attitude. - Posted by: Claudia Chernitsky (work) on: Sep 23, 2021

Helen and I are very saddened to hear about Judith's passing. We got to know Judith during the time she worked in Montreal in the late 1970s and saw her at family occasions after that. It was always a pleasure to talk with Judith and hear about her interests and projects in the arts and Jewish community. We will miss her! May her memory be for a blessing. - Posted by: Irving Binik (cousin) on: Sep 23, 2021

I am so sorry to learn of Judith’s passing. When I hung out with David and Daniel when we were teenagers, she was always the voice of reason. She was smart, focused and passionate about her pursuits. I know many join me in mourning her loss and happy that we had the opportunity to know her. May her memory be a blessing. Ron Telpner - Posted by: Ron Telpner (Friend ) on: Sep 23, 2021

Judith & I were friends from childhood. We shared an apartment in Haifa. Every visit to Winnipeg always included a long visit with Judith. She will be missed - Posted by: Linda Samet (friend) on: Sep 23, 2021

So many memories! We were both intellectual geeks when we were 13 and would go to the film festival together. I think we both had our first real job at maybe 14 working for her father. I visited her in Haifa on my trip through Europe that we all did after graduating from University. I had been traveling for months. She made me strip at the door and she poured I think it was diluted lye over me head to foot before I could enter her apt. She was straightforward, blunt, opinionated, and brilliant but you had to love the girl. She had a heart of gold. I bet she is already telling them how to do things up there. We will miss her down here My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Marilyn Mertz Bronstein (Friend) on: Sep 22, 2021

I am so sad to hear of Judith’s passing. I met Judith when she worked for Investors Group and have not seen her since she retired but I have thought about her often. I loved her energy, sense of humour, openness, and kind nature. When my daughter was born Judith arrived with a present - it was a silver spoon and she said that “every child should be born with a silver spoon in their mouth” - I still have it, 22 yrs. later. Sending my deepest condolences to her family on the loss of this wonderful woman. - Posted by: Grace Gillis (Client) on: Sep 22, 2021

Deeply saddened to learn that Judith passed away. I first met Judith more than a decade ago when I worked at the Canadian Cancer Society. With my move to the HSC Foundation we had a chance to reconnect. She was a dear friend to the Foundation and will be missed. Wishing you all peace and comfort in the days ahead.
