Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I was Serge's client many years ago and while those interactions were brief they were very memorable. I recall us speaking Russian and Ukrainian languages and talking about our homelands. Throughout these years I would think of him often and I'm very saddened to find out about his passing. I offer my condolences to Serge's family. Вечная память (Memory Eternal in Russian). - Posted by: Lioubov Gavrilova-Crozier (Former client ) on: Jan 25, 2022

  • I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER My father taking me as a very little girl to Uncle Serge's home on Atlantic Ave. and the track to visit and find him pouring over his law books under a light bulb suspended from a ceiling cord Attending his wedding to Leona at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral on Redwood and Main with the unending stairs Being asked to mind the young daughters Julie and Natalie when in my teens 10 Salvia Bay Asking Uncle Serge to deliver the toast to the bride at my wedding due to his natural eloquence Uncle Serge and my son, Jarrett, sitting on the picnic bench in my parents' backyard together enjoying a cigarette and a drink in deep, meaningful conversation Uncle Serge and Leona coming out to our summer home in Kenora for the weekend with a steak dinner prepared in Leona fashion Uncle Serge's penchant for red Cadillacs My father, Wally Thiessen, Bill Byman and Uncle Serge planning Friday lunches together My dad, Bill, Serge in the Sport Car Unit of the Shrine after my dad had a serious accident in the Motor Patrol Three pals in full-throated harmonies singing beautifully as often as they could My father SO proud of his well-accomplished buddy that he would introduce him as a visiting foreign dignitary be it at the Winnipeg Squash and racket Club functions or at a significant dinner function and a red -faced Uncle Serge would be caught and forced to stand and take a bow. A few words may have been exchanged after but chuckles remain to this day. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER A LEGEND AND A HERO IN THE UKRAINIAN COMMUNITY BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, UNCLE SERGE - Posted by: Lana Storey (life-long family friend) on: Oct 02, 2021
