BETTY (ELIZABETH) SCHROEDER

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Betty Schroeder, on December 11, 2021.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Bill; three daughters; Diane (Steve), Lori (Garry), and Julie (Dale), grandchildren; Andrew (Janessa), Kari-Ann (Jamie), Kaylan (Nathan), Alysha, and Janelle (Graeme), and great-grandchildren; Lincoln and Everette. She is also survived by her siblings, Nettie and Elmer (Ruth), sister-in-law Agnes and Bill's family, Dick (Marion), and Trudy.
Betty was raised in the New Hope District, where she developed life-long friends, and enjoyed life on the farm. Betty married the love of her life, Bill, on July 13, 1958. They settled in Halbstadt, where they farmed together as Schroeder Brothers with Bill's brothers Dick and Pete, and Dick's wife Marion. On retirement in 1993, Bill and Betty moved to Altona.
Betty's most beloved treasures were her husband, three daughters, and their families. Betty's hugs were all-encompassing and were followed with a gentle finger wag that said, "I've got you". Betty was adored by her grandchildren. She created a warm, loving home where friends and family were always welcome. No one visiting left on an empty stomach! Betty had a knack for gardening, creating a beautiful yard for all to enjoy. She didn't read musical notes and was self-taught in playing the piano, organ, guitar, violin uke, harmonica, and accordion. She enjoyed playing guitar in the neighbourhood bluegrass band, playing organ for her church, singing with the community choir, and performing at many local events. Later, Betty found great delight in singing along with her grandchildren. Community was important to Betty. She worked alongside her neighbours, sewing and creating crafts and baked goods to be sold at the ladies aid sale, cooking and serving at the Halbstadt fall turkey suppers, serving Meals on Wheels, and working at the MCC Store. Betty was always ready to cook a meal or help a neighbour in need.
Betty will be remembered for her quiet strength, kind and giving nature, and her deep faith in God. She was baptized into the Sommerfeld Church at an early age and remained a devoted follower of Jesus and member of the church to the end. Betty was a powerful prayer warrior who prayed daily for each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others who were in need of prayer. Her commitment to their well-being and daily prayers extended to her final moments. Betty's focus in her faith journey was on the salvation and eternal life that is found through a faith in Jesus Christ.
It is with much gratitude that we thank Betty's health care providers Dr. Suliaman, Shannon Reimer, Dr. Woelk, Amberly Reimer, and all the wonderful staff at Altona Home Care and Hospital for lovingly caring for mom during her illness. Special thanks also to Marion, Glenda, and mom's many friends and family that supported her with delicious home cooked meals and timely visits/phone calls. Finally, thanks to Wiebe Funeral Home for their kind and thoughtful service.
