SYLVESTER PREDINCHUK
September 9, 1936 March 30, 2022
Peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 30, 2022, Sylvester left us to be with his beloved Marie.
He was predeceased by his life partner, Marie Gibson, (2011) and son Garry (2006). He leaves behind brother Leo (Prince Edward Island), brother Lawrence (Winnipeg), son Rob Predinchuk, daughters, Jody and Kim (all British Columbia), stepsons, Barry and Sean Gibson (Winnipeg), cousins, Tim and Karin (Gimli), Janet (Winnipeg) and many grandkids.
Sylvester was born in Tuffnell, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm. At a young age he won an art scholarship which he nurtured and became an accomplished painter. He loved painting nature and wildlife scenes and his love of birds which he shared with Marie. His many paintings hung proudly in his apartment. He enjoyed sharing these with family and friends and making prints to use as special greeting cards. He passed this special gift down to his daughter Kim and other family members. Paintings by "Predinchuk" will carry on in future generations!
Sylvester had a long, happy career at Canada Packers, taking early retirement in 1990. He loved cooking and was a very good cook. His favourite position at Canada Packers was running the cafeteria. He loved making his special head cheese, dill pickles, sauerkraut soup and cooking for family and friends when visiting. There was always some friendly banter between him and Maria over who was in charge in the kitchen!
After retirement, Sylvester enjoyed spending his time going to garage sales with Marie, collecting their antiques and trinkets, proudly showing off their "great buys" and sharing them as special fun gifts with family and friends.
He loved to go for walks in St. Vital Park with her, feeding the birds. He also loved watching nature shows and sports on TV, especially football and golf and getting his weekly football bets in with son Rob during NFL season!
In his later years Sylvester enjoyed sharing some special times of watching sports and cooking with stepson Barry on their regular Sunday afternoons visits.
Sylvester's special place was the beloved family cabin at Lester Beach, Manitoba. He loved spending summers there with Maria and sharing many fond, special times and memories over the years with his children, Rob, Kim, Jody, grandkids and other family and friends. Everyone was welcome at Lester Beach!
We wish to thank our wonderful frontline health care workers, doctors, nurses and support workers from Health Sciences Centre CancerCare, Seven Oaks Hospital and TCU2 Misericordia Hospital. Amazing job and care they do in these very trying times. Special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. Lockman who helped keep an eye on him these last several years.
In lieu of flowers and cards, donations can be made in his memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
A private service for family and friends will take place at a later determined date.
