GLENDA BUHR
Peacefully, with family by her side, Glenda passed away at Concordia Hospital on April 19, 2022, at the age of 87.
Glenda was predeceased by her parents, Florence and Everett Hamm and her two brothers, Jim and Graydon.
She leaves behind her husband of 69 years, Glen; daughter Pamela (Gordon Park); son Glenn (Margaret Sweatman); grandchildren, Jennifer, Dorian, Erin, Stephen and Nicolas; great-grandchildren, Eloise, Jackson, Lachlan, Xavier and Jack. As well her 'added on' family, granddaughters, Andrea, Jocelyn, Bailey and Hillery and their families, whom she welcomed wholeheartedly without hesitation.
Glenda was a remarkable woman. She became a 'stay at home' mom at 17 and then went on to pursue a career at the age of 41, which included solo driving trips to Northern Manitoba to deliver retirement seminars to Provincial employees.
She was an accomplished curler, golfer, and lawn bowler. She won Manitoba championships in curling at both regular and senior levels and was honoured on the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame. She was also a member of a Canadian Championship lawn bowling team. She was a better than average golfer and was an organizer of leagues at both Kildonan Park and Shooters golf courses.
She was a pristine homemaker and a home decorator extraordinaire. She was known for her empathy, her hospitality, her love of music and especially her laughter.
We would like to acknowledge the compassionate care received from all the staff at Concordia hospital. On two occasions, two different people used the word 'feisty' when describing Glenda. Truer words were never spoken!
There will be no formal service, but we know that all who knew her will celebrate her life through memories of her.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society or other charity of your choice, on her behalf. Anyone who knew Glenda knows she was an avid animal lover whose many pets had a very excellent lifetime with her!

I had the pleasure of working with Glenda until her retirement in 1989. She was my mentor and friend. The fun we had at coffee breaks. I never laughed so hard. I have thought of you so many times over the years and hoped you were enjoying your retirement. Your sympathy card, when Jim passed away in 1994, was the kindest most thoughtful gesture. But that was you Glenda. I apologize that this has taken so long. I just read in the Free Press community review, in the article Remembering those we lost in 2022, that you had passed away. We lost a beautiful person on that day. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Debbie Klem (Co-worker CSSB) on: Feb 03, 2023

In about 1974, Glenda was instrumental in the Junior curling league at the Transcona club. She had faith in a scrawny kid like me and taught me the rules, etiquette and technique of the game. I have been forever grateful and am still playing with another former student. We both have many fond memories of our learn to curl days! My condolences on the loss of a remarkable woman. - Posted by: Colleen Einarson (Former curling student) on: Nov 08, 2022

Hi Pam - My deepest condolences on the passing of your mom Glenda. I find it such a gift to have me her and golfed with her at Kildonan and Shooters golf courses. She was such a pleasant person and always willing to help. I also served with her on the executive there and she always had wise advice for us all. May she be at peace, I know she suffered alot in the past few years. Take care of yourself and perhaps our paths will cross again some time. - Posted by: Charlette Novak (golfing buddy) on: May 01, 2022

Had many lovely happy hours in Sun Valley Village with her and Glenn at their place or others’ places, plus concert shows. Spent a couple of New Year’s Eve in Nuevo Progresso, Mexico with them and other friends. Thanks to Glenda spent 4 or 5 years golfing at Shooter’s in Winnipeg. Watched her get one of her 3 hole in ones (in a year) at Cancer tournament at Cottonwood course in Harlingen, Texas. She will always be fondly remembered. - Posted by: Marilyn and Doug Hermiston (Friends) on: Apr 29, 2022

My condolences to you, Glen, and your family. Glenda was a wonderful person to work with and know. I remember she often got shushed because of her hearty laughter in the office. The picture posted with this obit is a perfect depiction of Glenda's spirited disposition. She will be missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Terri (Teresa) Krasnowski (Co-Worker @ CSSB) on: Apr 23, 2022

I attended my first retirement seminar in my early twenties. Glenda suggested that I was probably in the wrong room as this was a presentation for potential retirees. I told her I had an interest in planning ahead and that I heard she had a lot to offer to her participants. She then welcomed me in and for many years to follow when we crossed paths we always had a good chuckle over my interest in retirement in my ‘early’ years! Glenda was an exceptional woman who helped many of us doing the job and providing excellent assistance to so many people. Thankful to have known her!
