PAUL CHOPEK
December 22, 1949 – August 11, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Chopek on August 11, 2022, at the age of 72.
Paul was a loving husband to his wife, Colleen, for 48 years, a dedicated father to his three sons, Jason, Jamie and Jeremy, a caring father-in-law to Kelli, Jennifer and Ashley and the most adored "Tampa" to his five grandchildren, Nathaniel, Daphne, Brynja, Lilja and Grace. Paul was an uncle to many nieces and nephews and brother-in-law to Stefan and Marquise and Halldora and Wilfred and Patricia.
Paul was born in Gimli, Manitoba and is survived by his father Paul Chopek Sr., his brother Michael Chopek (Diane) and his sister Rosslyn Anaka (Dennis). He was predeceased by his mother Mona Chopek. Paul spent his early years growing up in Balmertown, Ontario where he was very active in sports, particularly hockey, fastball and curling. He met Colleen at a curling bonspiel in Balmertown and moved to Winnipeg shortly thereafter.
Paul worked in agricultural sales for more than 35 years and enjoyed long-standing friendships with many of his customers. He loved spending time at the family cottage at Valhalla Beach, cutting the grass, enjoying the sounds of Lake Winnipeg and generally just "puttering" around the property. He genuinely loved to paint the house and would show up at a moment's notice to help his kids with projects around their homes. Paul was a true sports fan. He remained an active curler throughout his life and loved talking sports with his sons. Paul was an enthusiastic supporter of his sons and grandchildren in sport. He would be found at hockey, soccer, handball, lacrosse, skating lessons and dance recitals, "double-double" in hand, proudly watching his children and grandchildren enjoy their activities.
A man of many talents, his family is steadfast in their claim that "Tampa" made the best homemade pizzas. What started out as a Sunday night treat for his family became a regular request from his sons and grandkids.
Paul willfully fought his cancer diagnosis for eight years. He was a strong and proud man, sometimes even stubborn, and he remained determined to live his life to the fullest, spending as much time with his family as possible. Although a quiet man, Paul loved family gatherings and was happiest to spend time with his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and wife. Paul had an amazing ability to make everyone around him a better person. His determination, his dedication, his integrity, his loyalty and his fight were instilled in those closest to him, particularly his three sons.
His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the palliative care unit.
Donations in Paul's memory may be made to the Department of Pediatrics at CancerCare Manitoba.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Paul at a later time.
