KAJ THOROE RASMUSSEN

Kaj Thoroe Rasmussen, peacefully passed away at home Monday, September 5, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kaj was born to Robert and Ellen Rasmussen on May 23, 1963, in Haldum, Denmark. He is survived by his wife Kelly (Hickson) Rasmussen of Monroeville, AL, son Joel Rasmussen, mother Ellen, sister Inger, sister-in-law Karen of Winnipeg, brother Robert (Teresa) of Edmonton and in-laws, James and Deborah Hickson, brother-in-law Colin (Erin) Hickson of Monroeville, AL, sister-in-law Jaime Taggart (David) and brother-in-law Jared Hickson (Amy) of Manitoba. He was predeceased in death by his father Robert and brother Kent. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews who are going to miss their "Uncle Yabba"!
Kaj's family moved from Denmark to Winnipeg when he was five years old. Kaj spent his childhood in Brooklands and Weston mainly trying to stay out of trouble filling time with time hanging with friends, playing video games, and listening to music. He loved spending weekends and summers at Twin Beaches with his uncle and Danish friends and family. Kaj retired from 30 plus years of working for Russel Metals on St. James Street. For the last four years he lived in Monroeville enjoying retirement in the beautiful warm weather, which permitted him to year round landscape and garden, bird watch and fish, nap outside, visit the Gulf Coast beaches and sit around bonfires while star gazing.
He was grateful for all the companionship and new friends he made in Monroeville. Kaj loved to show videos of ice fishing, winter road driving conditions and sharing his favourite Canadian chocolate bars with the Southerners. Thank you to all the prayer warriors especially Pastor Neco Tate, who witnessed his commitment to our Lord, Jesus Christ.
The Rasmussen and Hickson families appreciate the love, concern and prayers offered up for them these last few months, this has made the very difficult time somewhat bearable. They wish to express their unending gratitude for the love and support they have felt from family, friends, Monroe County Hospital and Hospice of Monroe County. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the hospital for your caring, nurturing and friendship. Kaj is at peace now. While we all will miss him, he rests comfortably with the Lord.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Winnipeg next summer.
