EDMOND JOHN SMITH

Edmond John Smith, born September 27, 1945, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022.
Edmond is survived by his partner Diana Smith; his daughter Charlene Hancox-Senow (Patrick) and her children, Brendan, Reisha, Kameo, Shaun, Brynnan, Khloe and Alexander; his son Colin Smith and his children, Carmen and Vanessa; his brother Roy Smith (Ann); his nephew David and his nieces, Joanne, Jennifer, and Chelsea and their families.
Edmond was predeceased by his parents, Leo Alexander Smith and Alma Marie (Breland) Smith and his brother Glen Smith.
Edmond was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the St. Vital area, where he met his future wife, Diana. Edmond and Diana raised their two children in Windsor Park. Edmond started his 44 years of employment with the City of Winnipeg working out of the St. Vital city yard operating equipment and ending the last 30 plus years as Equipment Coordinator, responsible for hiring private contractors for the City of Winnipeg.
Edmond's joy was going for drives with his partner Diana, exploring the countryside. He valued time with his family and found ways to get involved. Whether it was time spent visiting with Charlene and her family during the various toy collector shows or spending time working on cars and visiting with his son Colin and his nephew Darryl. He enjoyed every moment to its fullest.
As per Edmond's request there will not be a funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Diabetes Canada.

  • Sorry to see Ed leave ,but for a Better Place. We were work associates, and friends forever . Drank a few Bubblies and went to lots of Gentleman Dinners over the years. Many breakfast meetings (every Sat. morning ) with lots of friends showing up. Will miss going for rides in that big black Buick cruising the city. R.I.P. • I met Ed in the seventies when he got the Opt 111 position in D6 as we were both Operators and as the years when on Ed got the dream job that fitted him to a tee and that was Equipment Co-ordinator for the City of Winnipeg and Ed did it with the knowledge that was second to none, Ed saved my bacon many many times when there was a shortage of Hired equipment due to the severity of a snow storm I would call Ed as the Senior Foreman and he always came through whether Day or Night, Weekend, Holidays he was there for me, I will miss him as we had many Breakfast gathering's with the old gang after retirement and he would always be there, and he always had a story to tell as Ed was one of a kind, rest is peace old friend as you earned it ! - Posted by: Brian Graham (Co-worker) on: Dec 10, 2022

  • I met Ed when he began dating my cousin Diana in 1967. I was dating Bill so we had many double dates with Ed and Diana. We had many fun times together. As stated, Ed loved day road trips and we did many. After we all married those times were less in his car and more in each other's homes. Ed was a giver. If you were in trouble you knew you could call Ed and he'd be there. A funny memory I recall, when Bill and I first married we were in an apartment suddenly there was a knock on our door, it was Ed and Diana at 10 pm in their PJ'S. They decided to go for a drive and stopped by on their way home. Those were the days before we all had our kids. Ed loved people. Eating out and in his last years he appreciated his friendships. Ed you drew near to the Lord especially the past few years. Life has been hard health wise for you in the last years. You didn't complain but knew you struggled. Well my friend and dear cousin you no longer struggle. You knew the Lord well and He knew you. I will see you in heaven one day. Hey, can I ask you a favour? Give my Billy a big hug when you see him. I'm sure you already have. Thank you for the memories, now you are free and bobbing all over your new home in heaven. Exciting times for you. We will meet again. Know this, 'you were loved ' and will never be forgotten. Love your cousin Delores - Posted by: Delores Margerison (Cousin in law) on: Dec 10, 2022

  • Uncle Ed, I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to say good-bye. I will miss our calls, especially on my bday. You were a very kind hearted man, always there to help. You took me in when I was a kid when you had your own family to take care of and I will never forget that. It was a big ask and you didn't even hesitate so thank you for that. You helped my mom and I move to AB and back then did the same for me yrs later. You were an awesome Uncle and I hope you are at peace now. Love your niece Joanne - Posted by: Joanne Smith (neice) on: Dec 10, 2022
