ALLAN DOUGLAS (DOUG) REID
Happy Heavenly 1st Birthday Dad
Allan Douglas Reid (Doug) passed away peacefully on August 23, 2022, in Creston BC, at the age of 83 years, the beloved husband of Peggy Reid.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Peggy; his son Jim (Janet Holyk) Reid, grandchildren Mitch and Danielle (Brandon Payette) Reid; his daughter Sandra (Gregg Branston) Didzun, grandchildren Tyler and Trevor (Chyanne Atto), great-grandsons Kai and Jaxsyn Didzun. Doug will also be remembered by his first wife and mother of his children, Joyce Gilmour. Doug is also survived by his brother-in-law George Zieglgansberger, nieces Debbie, Cathy, Barb and nephews Doug and John.
Doug was born December 9, 1938 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At the age of six months, he took his first trip to Malachi Lake, Ontario to visit his grandmother Jane Davie, at her cabin. This became a lifelong love with Malachi. He spent most of his time there and built his own log cabin which we would stay in during the winter. He loved the outdoors and was always puttering around on something. He would often talk about his life and the many friends at the lake.
Growing up in River Heights, close to Blossom Park he became a member of the Blossom Boys. A group of boys playing sports, making friendships which lasted his entire life. Doug was very active in sports and was an avid fan of the Winnipeg Jets as well as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He started the Annual Snowgolf at Malachi. When he moved to Creston, BC he was one of the founding members of the Coffins Dodgers Mixed Senior Ball League.
Doug worked at Red River Community College for several years as a Computer Science Instructor. Doug and Peggy moved out to Creston, BC in 1998 and continued to make yearly visits home.
Doug was predeceased by his parents John Chalmers (JC) and Muriel Reid, sister Marolyn Zieglgansberger and great- granddaughter Rannan Ray Didzun.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Jane Davie Memorial Nursing Bursary at the University of Manitoba Donor Relations, 200-137 Innovation Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3T 6B6, 1-204-474-9195.
