GEORGE WAYNE MURPHY
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George, with his family by his side, on December 10, 2022, at the age of 84 years.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley, daughters, Heather (Mike) and Maureen (Trevor), grandchildren, Ally, Noah and Mason, sisters, Sharon and Lorraine, sisters-in-law, Janet and Terry and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Viola, brother Jack and brother-in-law Bill.
Although confined to a wheelchair since 1953, George was able to lead a full and happy life raising two daughters and being an extremely devoted husband. He did not let his disability stop him from camping, playing wheelchair basketball, canoeing at Brereton Lake, or biking with his dog. George was determined to overcome every challenge that he faced in life and served as a true inspiration to those around him.
A Celebration of Life and interment will be planned in the new year.
The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the staff on CD2 at Riverview Health Centre for their exceptional care over the years, as well as the ER staff at Grace Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spinal Cord Injury Manitoba or Riverview Health Centre Foundation.

I was saddened to read of George’s passing. I knew him as the brother of my Fort Rouge school day friends, Sharon and Lorraine. I saw him a few years ago at the old Manitoba Clinic and, it wasn’t until I passed George, that I realized it was him, complete with his vibrant red hair. He hadn’t changed one bit. I wish I had spoken to him. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Dale Kilfoyle (nee Ulrich) (Teenage friend of Sharon and Lorraine) on: Dec 17, 2022
