Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • So saddened by this great loss. He was a funny, caring man. I married Doug in 1982. We didnt have children, and the marriage did not last, but the fond memories always will. - Posted by: brigitte bereznay (ex wife) on: Feb 03, 2025

  • Patrick, Margot, Aiden, and Everyone, “Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?” – Robert Burns. I thank God for 40 years of close friendship with Doug marked (for a couple of those decades), with weekly phone calls from one Province to another. We last spoke on the phone the Friday before he suddenly died and “it was Good”. Our friendship contributed a great deal of Peace to my life and I believe that our friendship will continue to bring me Peace until I am called Home as well. The very last words he txtd me were “Home Safe” and it will forever remind me that “We`re all just walking each other home”. Tony and Lili - Posted by: Anthony Hilton (Friend ) on: Jan 04, 2023

  • Doug was a friend of my dad's for as long as I can remember. Though only 6 years older than my own dad, we lovingly referred to him as 'Grandpa Doug'. When I was a kid Grandpa Doug would visit us in Ontario once in awhile with gifts ranging from hotel pillow chocolates, to football memorabilia, to my very first ukulele. As a teenager I remember my dad & Doug's weekly phone calls reminiscing about their days working for Environment Canada and catching up. Occasionally Grandpa Doug would invite me to be a part of the conversation and share about what was new in my life if he heard me in the background. In recent years since moving away from home, I kept him updated with emails and letters. He was generous in supporting me financially with my work in Christian ministry, and sent a thoughtful card and gift when I got married this past fall. I will always remember 'Granpda' Doug as thoughtful, generous, and willing to help. My condolences to Margot and Patrick, as well as other family and friends, it was a pleasure to have known Doug. May the peace of Christ that surpasses all understanding be with you now and always. - Posted by: Jess McLean (Hilton) (Friend) on: Jan 03, 2023

  • I was very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He will be greatly missed at West Broadway Community Ministry, which is where I first met him. He was instrumental in keeping things running smoothly at the drop-in. As fellow volunteers, we all relied on Doug to help us calm any storms or rectify any organizational problems that came up. Behind his sometimes gruff exterior, we knew he was a softy! My sympathies to his family. Rest in peace, Doug. - Posted by: Wanda McConnell (Friend) on: Jan 01, 2023

  • I got to know Doug when we both volunteered at West Broadway Community Ministry. We worked in the computer room with Ron Dunsmore and Gavin Chamish. During the pandemic Doug and I worked together on the emergency food and the 55 plus Seniors group. I will miss Doug. RIP Doug. - Posted by: Mark Olfert (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2022

  • I was very saddened to find out Doug pass away I volunteered with Doug at Crossways church for three years in the computer room. He served as a mentor for me in learning employment skills and getting me ready to be in a work environment. He was great and enjoyed working with him. He even looked into school for me in his off time because he just wanted to help me do better in life. I still haven’t gotten over the fact he is gone and I disappointed I will never see him again. - Posted by: Gavin Chamish (friend) on: Dec 31, 2022
