MALINE ROSE SOLOMON
(SWITZER)
January 9, 1941 - December 23, 2022
It is with great sadness that we share that our queen Maline Solomon has lost her valiant fight with cancer. She was surrounded with the love of her husband Joe and her daughter Scarlett as she left this world. Maline has left behind her husband Joe Solomon, daughter Scarlett Solomon and husband Kyle Peters. She will also be missed by her brother Lawrence Switzer of Regina. Maline was loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her large amazing group of friends and her precious cats Senna, Mocha and Tommy (My cup cake as he was so affectionately referred to). She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Rose Switzer, brothers Ivan Switzer (Dorothy), Fred Switzer (Iris), her sister Maxine Dixon (Frank) and sister-in-law Betty Switzer.
Maline was born in Duff, Saskatchewan and grew up in Melville. She taught school in Regina, then moved to Winnipeg after marrying Joe. She was always proud of her Saskatchewan roots. Maline had an incredible career as a school teacher. She was passionate about her work, creative and always innovative. There are many people who still remember their Mrs. Solomon with fondness. Maline was a great cook and loved to throw dinner parties. Her friends and family sure enjoyed these times. She certainly had a flare.
Maline's creativity could be seen in every aspect of her life. Her home, her garden, and let's not forget her fashion sense! Maline was a shining star that always lit up the room! She loved people and people loved her. The party started when Maline arrived.
Maline's happy place was the Rady Centre. She was an athlete; she was a runner and she was an inspiration to so many people. Maline was recently recognized by the Rady Centre by receiving the Ken Kronson fitness award. Maline fulfilled her goal of running a half marathon in all 10 provinces in Canada and one in Phoenix. She was a real competitor and always won first in her age category with exception coming second in two instances. Maline and Joe travelled extensively throughout every province in Canada (running Marathons). They travelled throughout Europe, Africa (five Safari's), Australia, New Zealand, South America and many parts of USA. She loved to go to Mexico, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta for her Zumba trips. Recently she and Joe went to Sicily and she and Scarlett went to New York. Maline was very proud of the fact the she travelled to six continents in the fifty-four and a half years of her and Joe being together. Travel was her passion. Maline's last three years were a challenge, but she fought through it all with incredible might and determination. She always had time for her friends and family. Always a smile on her face. Maline found a way to make every day a joy. Her family would like to express gratitude to the Cancer Care team, Palliative Care and her medical team of Dr. Lipshitz, Dr. Kim and Dr. Ogaranko. A very special thank you to Dr. Pat Harris for being a tremendous support and friend to Maline and her family.
As per Maline's wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held for Maline on January 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson in the Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB.

I first met Maline when I worked out at Tights and BodyWorks between 1989 and 1993. The news of her passing gave me a jolt. I admired her sense of style and her inner and outer beauty. - Posted by: Lena Laufer (Aerobic participant from long ago) on: Mar 16, 2023

What an honour to have crossed paths with Maline. She was a class act through and through. Maline touched the lives of so many students over the years, friends she would exercise with, other people she interacted with. We all benefitted greatly from knowing her. Her style was magnificent and she cherished being creative with her clothes and accessories. She cared about others and they knew it. Her sense of humour kept her going even in tough times. What an inspiration she was to all of us. Condolences to her beloved husband and daughter. Maline was the utmost trooper. - Posted by: Harriet Berkal (Friend ) on: Jan 02, 2023

Although I only had the pleasure of meeting Maline a few times, I was taken by her genuinely warm personality. She seemed a ready of sunshine, even in the darkest of times. I'm sure she's the hilight of heaven, shining her brightest. My deepest condolences to those who loved her. - Posted by: Family friend (Family friend) on: Jan 02, 2023

My sincere condolences to Joe and Scarlett. I have many wonderful memories of my time spent with Maline; visiting the cats in her always beautifully decorated home, group breakfasts at the Viscount Gort hotel, going for gelato at Nucci's, and much more. For years, Maline and Joe shared a love of reading with my sibling and I through the McNally gift certificates that we eagerly awaited come christmas time. Maline felt like another grandma to me and my childhood wouldn't have been the same without her. Thank you Maline, for being the creative, loving, generous, amazing woman you were and for the way you touched my heart and soul. - Posted by: Sloan Cassels (Grandchild of Maline's long time friend Debbie) on: Jan 01, 2023

What an amazing woman! So passionate and so happy. With a lust for life, fashion and her kitties. I will truly miss our visits at my manicure table! We had amazing conversations and I loved how she would come to me with these crazy nail art challenges, we had such fun making our creations together. She was such a kind, caring and generous person. She put up an amazing fight over the last few yrs, and I was honored to be a part of it! You will forever be missed my dear! Heart-felt condolences to my friend, Scarlett and to Joe. It was a privilege and an honor spending an evening with Maline this past November in NYC. She was as fun and delightful as she was 45 years ago! Still, the fashionista. Generous (she picked up the tab at the restaurant- totally unexpected!) and entertaining. I’ll cherish the memory of that visit, always. May her light continue to shine. - Posted by: Carla Lother (Friend) on: Dec 31, 2022
