LESLIE ALAN WEST
At the end of a long and richly filled life, Leslie Alan West passed away peacefully, with family by his side, the morning of December 28, 2022, in Winnipeg at the age of 96.
Les was born in Moncton, NB, May 13, 1926. He lived his childhood in Orissa, India, where his father was a medical missionary. In 1941, Les returned to Canada to finish high school, later attending Acadia University in Nova Scotia to earn his B.A. in Biology. In 1953 Les continued his education, obtaining his Masters in Social Work at the University of Toronto. From 1953 to 1965, Les served as a Social Worker in the Child Welfare and Mental Health Services at various centers in Ontario until he came to Winnipeg in 1965 to begin his well-respected career as Professor of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. He retired in 1987.
His wife Olga (age 53) passed away in 1980, after which he met and later married Irene Fillion in 1983.
Les was predeceased by his brother Donald, and his two sisters, Marg and Carol.
His daughter Andrea and son Greg (Rodney), both live and work in Winnipeg.
Leslie will be greatly missed by his wife and family and all those whose lives he touched, for he was truly one of the good ones.
A service for Les will be held at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. on January 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. - reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice
