RAYMOND ERNEST ELSON
May 29, 1933 - February 13, 2023

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Raymond Elson on February 13, 2023, at the age of 89.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Paul and family (daughter-in-law, Yvonne, and grandsons, Jonathan and Andrew) as well as his daughter, Meredith and son-in-law, Kirk.
Born in Guildford, Surrey, England in 1933, Ray married Joan Proctor in 1954 and the two immigrated to Canada three years later, settling in Winnipeg. Although Ray and Joan would eventually separate in 1980, they continued to maintain a friendly relationship until the time of Joan's passing in 2010.
Over the course of 33 years, Ray built a rewarding career working for Air Canada in their data preparation department. Upon his retirement in 1993, he took up golf and spent many happy years enjoying time on the links with a group of his fellow Air Canada retirees and friends.
Ray was renowned for his occasionally gruff style of humour which often led to those unaccustomed to it wondering whether or not he was being serious. Once they came to realize that his tongue was firmly planted in his cheek, people got a real kick out of Ray.
Ray had a strong sense of community and cared deeply for the people within it, especially those he considered to be less fortunate than himself. He contributed much time and effort to numerous charitable organizations and causes including the Christmas Cheer Board of Winnipeg for which he volunteered for many years. In a final act of generosity, Ray has donated his body to the University of Manitoba's Department of Human Anatomy & Cell Science for teaching purposes.
Ray's family would like to thank the staff of The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their extraordinary care and kindness.
A family-based celebration of Ray's life will take place at a later date.
Ray's life may be honoured through any thoughtful or charitable act of your choosing, whether monetary in nature or not. Anything that would bring a smile to someone's face or give them a good chuckle would be in full keeping with Ray's spirit. He will be greatly missed. "Merry Christmas."
