GERALDINE MARION IRVINE (QUANTZ)
Geraldine was born in Toronto and raised in Kirkland Lake Ontario. She always said upon introduction, "Call me Gerry". This was due to childhood comparisons with a magnificent creature with long legs, that could be found munching the high tops of trees in Eastern Africa.
Gerry was not a fashionista; she gravitated toward casual pants and a sweatshirt. A quick touch of lipstick and a jaunty sweep of a comb was her signature. Thankfully, Barry, her dear husband and our Dad reveled in shopping for her.
On May 18th, 1957, when they got married, Mom worn a dazzling teal gown that she bought at Mary's Dress Shop in Kirkland Lake. Mom had definitive ideas and listened to her instincts. Her favourite meal was breakfast. She liked the odd gin and tonic on special occasions. She was an ultimate rescuer of animals. A certain black cat with piercing green eyes, who later became "Sapphire" was plucked from the snow outside the nursing home where she worked. Mom's prudent actions had a positive effect on those around her.
Being a nurse, she had a practical side, and we all remember the long hours she put in at work, caring for the elderly while working alongside her treasured colleagues. Upon her retirement came university studies. A personal best! Geraldine graduated with a Degree in Arts (Political Science).
Our mother was not one to be lukewarm about things. No half measures were good enough. She always dove in with glee, rather than being satisfied with skimming the surface. Before the three of us came along, Dad was her biggest cheerleader. He spoke to us often of her value and her contributions. They were best friends who enjoyed spending time together.
After being apart for nine years we find solace knowing you are together in Heaven. Dad, thank you for your patience as Mom was not ready to take leave of us yet. Gerry leaves behind her children: Roberta Ann Irvine (George), Suzanne Atwell (James) and David Irvine (Leslie). She will be missed by her grandchildren: Reva (Lucas), Harley (Tia), Bennet, Kim and Jillian. Other family include Neil (Joan) Irvine, Leslie (Glen), Gillian (Meaghan, Ryan) and Arden (Brenda) Irvine and Kim (Aum).
The family wishes to thank the staff at Seine River Retirement Residence and Riverview Health Centre for your excellent care and devotion to our mother – you became her extended family!
A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue, Winnipeg on May 27, 2023 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Gerry was the soft spoken voice that made me feel, she was talking from her heart to mine. She was so kind and sincere. We met through Trinity United Church years ago and often talked. We were members of the Monday study group while she was able and shared her thoughts, with solid faith. Gerry was a real gem, and I am so glad to call her a dear friend who is missed and remembered with a smile! - Posted by: Connie Fillion (Friend and Neighbour) on: May 24, 2023

You couldn’t find a nicer person. She had a quiet nature, with a great big heart and a fun loving personality. Everyone loved Gerry. She’ll be missed. Say Hi to Barry from us. - Posted by: Nash (Family) on: May 24, 2023
