MARCELLE FRECHETTE

(née DUFAULT)

1936 – 2023

On t’aime!

Peacefully on May 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, Marcelle passed away at the age of 87 at Actionmarguerite St. Vital. The family is at peace knowing that Mom’s suffering has ended and that she is now reunited with her beloved son Tony Jr.
Marcelle will be lovingly remembered by her husband Antoine (Tony Sr.) of 69 years, her five children Michelle (Robert), Monique (Alain), Rachelle (Mayur), Nicole (Alex), Carole (Doug), as well as her daughter-in-law Raymonde Gagné (Daniel), her 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sisters Yvette Tytgat and Sister Ida Dufault, brothers Charles and Paul, sisters-in-law Édith Pantel (Roland) and Léa Fréchette, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Marcelle was predeceased by her parents Charles and Eva (née Lamontagne), her son Antoine (Tony Jr.), nine brothers and sisters as well as numerous in-laws and friends.
Born on January 10, 1936, in St. Boniface, MB, Marcelle was the 9th child in a family of 14, where strong family values were instilled in her from a very young age. Marcelle attended Académie Saint-Joseph school and later worked for her father at his sheet metal company.
In 1951, she met the love of her life Tony, marrying in January 1954. Between the years of 1955 – 1970, Marcelle and Tony welcomed six children which they raised with unconditional love. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she devoted her entire life to the well-being of her family.
In 1976 Marcelle and Tony embarked on an exciting family adventure when they became co-owners in the purchase of Aikens Lake Lodge, a fly-in fishing lodge located in Northern Manitoba. This 4-year chapter of their life still holds some of the most indelible memories of time spent as a family surrounded by nature at its best. In 1980 they purchased the Lundar Motor Hotel until selling in 1984, and it was there in Lundar, MB that they settled into retirement life.
Marcelle’s greatest qualities were her unconditional love and respect for all living things. She loved all animals and cared for many of her own. Her passion and mission in life was to love, care for and rescue any animal in need that would cross her path. Their Lundar homestead soon became a sanctuary for all “God’s little creatures” as she would often call them. Marcelle showed genuine altruism, compassion and dedication to her family, her friends, and her community. “Mom” as she was known to many, welcomed all into the Fréchette home with open arms.
Marcelle was blessed with many talents and interests, including cooking, art, sewing, singing, gardening, curling, sign language and the love for nature. Cherished forever are the wonderful family meals she always prepared with love and pride.
Mom’s core and shared values helped lay the solid foundation of our family. These family values were demonstrated over the countless family gatherings, where all were welcomed with open arms, and where good food, fun and laughter were had by all.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Vital for their care and compassion over the last 3½ years.
Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Should family and friends so desire, a donation in memory of Marcelle can be made to an animal shelter of choice.

Au revoir maman … à la prochaine! On t’aime!

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • To Uncle Tony and cousins - I am sorry to hear of the loss of your dear mom and your beautiful wife. My condolences to you and your family. My sweet aunt, Marcelle took American Sign Language (ASL) class with other aunts and mom during my childhood. I am lucky that I had supportive aunts and mom who used ASL to communicate with me. At Gallaudet University, I still share about my aunts and mom to use ASL with my college friends and co-workers. Thank you for mentioning about the sign language on her obituary. When I read it, it made me feel touchy. Sending my prayers to you. - Posted by: Mona Blanchette (Aunt ) on: May 30, 2023
