• We offer our condolences to Lea and her family. We feel really blessed to have known Guy. He was a wonderful person. Our years experiencing the Voyageur Wilderness Program will always be our most valuable life experience. It all happened for us through through Guy, Lea, Joseph and Michelle. Of course Father Al started it for us in London Ontario. Hundreds of students from the London Area have experienced the VWP and still talk about how much the trip changed their life. • Guy had a wonderful legacy with his family, church and community. I will always remember his legacy with the groups of students I brought up to VWP from Fenwick High School. His nurturing, friendly spirit inspired countless young people to become better stewards of our worldly ecosystem. I will always remember the pride on his face when he saw individuals come back from the wilderness trips with a better understanding of their role in the natural world. I am honored to have spent a little time in his life. Guy had a big influence in my life. As a teacher, they say if you can teach one, they will teach many. The lessons Guy taught are being lived right now all over the world. My condolences the family. May your memories be happy one. • My deepest sympathies to my little cousins for the loss of their father. Our common ancestor is Guy's great great grandparents Francois Savoie and Genevieve Alain dit Dudemaine. He is a descendant of Simon Savoie while I am a descendant of his older sister Genevieve (Savoie) Baril. • I want to say thank you to Guy, Lea and the entire Savoie family for everything they have done in the nearly 40 years that I have known him and them. When I met him the first time I was 16 years old and a high school student from Chicago that went on the Voyageur Wilderness Programme trip into Quetico. This trip taught environmental stewardship, team building and leadership training before they were fashionable corporate terms. Over the years we’ve stayed friends, done some work together and always talked crazy US and international politics. I found and listened to his advice which I believe was quite sound. His contribution to family, friends, the city of Winnipeg and provincial government, VWP and environmental concerns has been enormous. Thousands and thousands of children, now adults with their own children have learned the value of a healthy environment. I will miss you greatly my friend, especially your listening to something followed by slowly pointing with one finger and saying “…I’ll tell you something…” which always made me move up in my seat and pay extra attention.
