STEVE CORRIGAL
We regretfully announce the passing of Steve Corrigal, 62, who passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on July 13, 2023. Steve had a short but difficult battle with cancer and is now at rest.
He was predeceased by his father, James Ronald Corrigal. He is survived by his mother, Mary-Jane; his brother, Gerry; his wife, Mona; his two children, Megan and Eric; and an incredible number of friends.
Steve was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was very active and social throughout his life, playing hockey, rugby, golf, and curling. We will never forget the incredible support he was to his friends and family.
To say he will be missed is an understatement, however, we are at peace knowing that he now gets to enjoy a gin and tonic with his dad in the afterlife.
Steve requested a private Celebration of Life be held in his honour as opposed to traditional funeral services.

Steve and I were buddies at Glenwood, and hung out for a bunch of years together, which included camping in the backyard at his house. As happens a lot of times with young chums, we kind of with our separate ways after grade school. But I have a lot of great memories of spending time with him and his family. Cheers Steve! - Posted by: Glenn Boychuk (Friend) on: Jul 26, 2023

I first met Steve on a Rugby field in the early 1980s and soon after became very good friends which developed into a long happy friendship. We played Rugby, curled, sailed, vacationed in the BVI, learned the soap business, talked private stuff, and smiled at stupid stuff…that was us. A fond memory was sailing on Steve’s boat one day in Lake of the Woods on a downwind run with the McElhoes and Duffy spinnaker hoisted playing and singing to The Beach Boys Sloop John B off the Forrest Gump Soundtrack on my old Sears ghetto blaster with a gin in one hand and cigarette in the other…What a sight that must have been! Mona, Eric and Megan…my deepest sympathy for the loss of you husband and dad. - Posted by: Jeff Bencharski and Sharon Brick (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2023

I am shocked and devastated upon seeing the news of Steve's passing. Where to begin, I met Steve through curling and we attended Glenlawn together. Steve and I worked side by side for my father at H&R Block as 16 year olds. (Our first real jobs) We curled together entering bonspiels through out our junior curling days. Together with Cathy Tardi and Marcia McColmb we achieved a rare 7 ender in Ste. Anne, Mb. Later on in high school we worked together at Tony's Pizza across from Glenlawn. After Steve joined Gerry at the family insurance business he become my personal insurance broker. At least that is what it felt like, I am sure that everyone that walked through the door at McEholes and Duffy felt as if they were Steve's personal friend. That was his charm, he immediately could make you feel as if he had known you for years. My condolences, to his family and loved ones. Although, we hadn't stayed in touch, I will indeed miss his impish smile and positive spirit. Steve has been taken away far too soon. - Posted by: Don Hunt (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2023

My condolences to Mona, Meghan, Eric & Gerry. Steve, there are not enough words to describe the awesome guy that you were. I’m going to miss you buddy, your bad jokes, endless words of wisdom, time for a beverage, & always ready to lend a hand to a friend. A best friend to anyone & everyone. I’ve known Steve since Jr curling & even then you could see he was an easy going loveable guy & accepted you as you are. It was always a fun time hanging with Steve. Rugby players of my generation remember Steve as an old boy who always outplayed the young guns. He was such a force on the field. But an even greater force off the field. I remember him taking the time to talk to me and other rookies - paying particular attention to us as individuals - as though we mattered. His generosity in offering up his farm for Wombat events also created memories which will last a lifetime. He embodied so much which is great about rugby, and thereby left a great example and inspiration many of us try to follow. We are all thinking of the void his passing must leave for his family. - Posted by: Joe Langan (Rugby) on: Jul 19, 2023

I had played rugby against Steve over the lengths of our careers, but had the great fortune to travel with him, when he joined our club’s tour - the Winnipeg Wasps - to Czechoslovakia in ‘88. You make fast friends on a rugby tour, as you spend the entire trip competing and socializing, with a small group of players, and Steve proved to be a wonderful teammate and travel pal. He was always quick with a smile and to share a story over a beer, and really a damn good rugby player. We had a chance to do it again, in Las Vegas, in ‘93 and then together with the provincial team, to Newfoundland, years later. We always kept in touch through the sport, over the years, and he was so strongly supportive of his adoptive club, the Wasps, that we will always consider him one of our own. I am so deeply saddened to hear of Steve’s passing and hope that all who are dear to him, will be comforted by the memories of such a kind, passionate, and fine man. - Posted by: Ron Enberg (Friend ) on: Jul 19, 2023

I met Steve a few times over years past, at social Wanderers Rugby gatherings. His smile and good energy obviously stuck. I recalled him by full name on July 19th when another rugby friend mentioned ‘Steve’ gave away his ticket to someone who wished to see Vance Joy, but the date was sold out at Folkfest. It was a different last name. But when they said Steve, from Rugby. I thought of Corrigal. Cheers to all the great Steve’s in our lives. Your dad, husband, son friend, was definitely one of them. Love, light and endless beautiful memories for you all Condolences Liz - Posted by: Elizabeth Masi (Rugby ) on: Jul 19, 2023

I'm shocked and terribly saddened to learn of Steve's passing. He was throughout junior high and high school one of my nearest and dearest friends, playing hockey, golf and above all, curling together. I have so many wonderful memories of our times together, growing up one street over from each other we spent much time having so much fun and sharing great times. My sincere condolences to Steve's entire family. - Posted by: Jeff Wood (Friend) on: Jul 19, 2023
