Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID JAMES YUILL
The family of David (Dave) Yuill is heartbroken to announce his passing on the evening of Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the age of 84.
David is survived by his daughter Janna Remond (Alain), and sons Dan and Duncan (Peggy). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren (Stephen, Deanna, Amanda, Jaime, Lauren, Darby, Annika, and Grayson), six great-grandchildren (Nigel, Olivia, Jack, Rizzo, Arthur, and Louise), many friends, former co-workers and extended family members. Dave was pre-deceased by his wife Beverley in 2022, his parents James and Anne Yuill, and brothers Grenville and Ken.
After finishing high school, Dave landed a job with the Manitoba Telephone System (MTS). Joining MTS proved to be a decision that would help set the course of his life. It was there that he met his future partner and wife of nearly 62 years, Beverley Clarke. It was also through MTS that Dave and Bev made many cherished lifelong friends. He was a proud and dedicated employee for over 30 years until his retirement in 1996.
Though he had a long and successful career with MTS, Dave was defined by much more than his work. He was an avid sports fan and rarely missed watching the Bombers or Jets on TV. He also loved the outdoors and reveled in exploring the lakes and rivers of Manitoba and Ontario by canoe. There are few canoe routes in Manitoba that he didn’t paddle. One trip that stands out was up the Seal River in Northern Manitoba with his brother Gren, son Duncan and nephew Kevin. They travelled in cedar strip canoes that they built themselves to withstand the rugged adventure.
Another important part of Dave’s life was his volunteer work. He was not one to sit on the sidelines and would rather get involved. He was a long-time member of the Kinsmen Club and rose to serve a term as the District Governor. He served on the Boards of Agape Table, the Steinbach United Church and the Charleswood United Church. After his retirement, he volunteered with Hospice and Palliative Care providing companionship and support to those in need.
What we will remember most about Dave is his role as husband, father and grandfather. There was nothing more he loved than to be in the presence of his family. As a husband, he was loving and devoted. Whether it was flowers, gifts, a special treat or simply a few words, he was never shy to express his love. Perhaps the most loving act was his role as caregiver in the last few years of Bev’s life. He rarely left her side and made it his job to ensure that she was well cared for and comfortable to the end.
As a father and grandfather, he set the bar impossibly high. He was always there to help out or just have fun. Together we saw faraway places, sat by campfires, went skiing, and played golf. We built cottages, painted houses, rode on ferris wheels and roller coasters.
He was kind and thoughtful, and provided a reassuring presence that we will greatly miss. We are thankful for the many happy memories to carry us through.
A service of remembrance will take place at 11:00 a.m. on October 28, 2023, at Charleswood United Church (4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB).

I knew Dave from the good old MTS days at the Empress building. We continued to meet as a group every year just before Christmas, until COVID. Dave was a quiet and thoughtful man. He had a keen sense of humour. The tributes at his service were lovely, and spoke to how he lived his life. My sincere condolences to Dave's family - Posted by: Derrene Kozminski (Friend from MTS ) on: Oct 28, 2023

Tammy & I met the Yuill's thru Kinsmen in the late 70's. I had the privilege of being one of Dave's Deputy Governors, and we formed a great bond both with them and many of the Steinbach Kin & Kinettes. It's been quite a while since we've seen each other, but they both have remained prominent in our Kin memories. Dave was a great influence and a strong reason for our continued involvement with Kin. He will be missed not only by family, but many others who benefitted from their involvement and friendships. - Posted by: John & Tammy Howatt (Friends) on: Oct 15, 2023

My Uncle Dave was to me a great example of a true gentleman. I looked up to him, not least in the last months when he knew he was going to die but approached the end with courage, serenity and acceptance. He was what some now call "old school," meaning strong, courteous, respectful and always willing to help. He loved his wife - my Aunty Bev - and his children and grandchildren deeply and unconditionally. My family - my wife Bridget and my now grown children - remember his kindness, intelligence, energy and love of life. My memories of him involve ping pong games with my grandfather and his older brother Gren (my dad), with as much wrestling, horsing around and banter as ping pong. I was lucky enough to go along with him, my dad - his brother Gren - and his son Duncan to paddle the Seal River from Tadoule Lake to Hudson Bay. That was an epic journey indeed and Dave arranged it all. More recently, we had long conversations about politics, life, our ancestry and our families. He expressed his immense pride in his children and grandchildren and was always positive. I really enjoyed those conversations and wish I could have visited him one more time. I will miss him and am sad that such a presence is no longer in the world. - Posted by: Kevin Yuill (nephew) on: Oct 15, 2023

I first met Dave & Bev through Kinsmen. Met up often at conventions & meetings. Through connection learned we both worked for MTS. My favorite recollection is working as a load on for he & Gren out of Thompson for moose hunting trips. Joined them on one trip into the bush by float plane & canoe. It was an exciting adventure with several moose taken and harrowing flight out in an overloaded Beaver aircraft. Dave was one for adventure & fun, always a treat to chat with. I know we are among many who miss his presence. God speed. Bob Beavis, Marion, Virginia - Posted by: Bob Beavis (Friend) on: Oct 14, 2023

Our family considered Dave and Bev’s family part of our family and best friends. We met Dave and Bev in the spring of 1966 in Steinbach, Manitoba. We soon became best friends as our family expanded and grew up with Dave and Bev’s family. We shared many laughs, card games, vacations, good times and difficult times as most families experience in their lifetime. Dave and I worked together for 34 years for Manitoba Telephone System and both had the same dedication to work, our families, our family and friends. Lynda and I will miss Dave and Bev as most families and friends do. So many laughs, memories, life experiences and wonderful times. We will miss you!!! I have known Dave all my life, him and Bev were best friends of my mom and dads, I guess the better word is family. I have so many fond childhood memories of them, too many to share. Dave was one of the most kind, real, laid back person I know. He put his family and friends before him on a daily basis. This world is not the same without both of them, but I know Dave is up there with Bev, reunited again. I want to express my sincere condolences to the entire family for your loss, Dave will be dearly missed. RIP my friend. - Posted by: Chad Hawthorne (Family friend ) on: Oct 14, 2023
