HAZEL MARION BROCK

(nee PERRY)

December 16, 1932 - October 24, 2023

Suddenly, but peacefully, Hazel passed away at the Grace Hospital, surrounded by family.
She will be dearly missed by her son Grant; daughter Arlene (Terry) Genik, as well as other extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Ottie and Alice Perry; husband Allan; siblings, Leo and Phyllis.
She was born in Nova Scotia where she completed her nurses training followed by a move to Montreal for post-graduate training. She then decided to move to Winnipeg where she worked at Women's Hospital in Labour and Delivery. After moving to Winnipeg she met Allan Brock at Young United Church and they married on August 1, 1956. Even though she loved nursing, she left her career to be a stay-at-home mom for Grant followed by Arlene. Hazel loved to entertain and the house was always full of company including their Bridge group of the same four couples - this group gathered and played together for over 50 years. Family vacations included spending time at the cottage at Matlock, camping with the pop-up trailer, and utilizing travel passes through Allan’s job with Air Canada. She and Allan loved to travel, and they had travelled extensively throughout the world. Church was an important part of her life and she enjoyed many years as a member of Sturgeon Creek United Church. Hazel was an excellent cook and baker, and loved to try new recipes for company. She also loved to garden. She was generous with her time and volunteered with many different groups over the years.
As per Hazel's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  • Arlene, Terry & Grant So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Our Nova Scotia relatives gave her our phone number when she moved to Winnipeg. She called us and we became very good friends.
