EVELYN GLADYS LACKIE


With great sadness and gratitude for a well-lived life, we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, aunty, cousin, and friend Evelyn Lackie of Brandon, Manitoba on October 30, 2023.



Evelyn was born on April 22,1934 in Manson, Manitoba, and grew up in Kirkella, Oak Lake, McCauley, and Virden. She married Don Lackie in Virden in July of 1955 and they lived in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Kelowna, BC, Nova Scotia, and Scottsdale, Arizona.



She was a singer, piano player, secretary, Vice President of the Kelowna Mentally Handicapped Society, an active member of the Kelowna Yacht Club with her boat (called Boat) and co-owner of Drill Rite Industries - Fishing and Oil Tool Company. She enjoyed singing in the choir with Brandon Seniors for Seniors.



Mom traveled to Hawaii, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Las Vegas, the Caribbean, the States, and Canada by car, bus, train, plane, boat, and her own airplanes.



Evelyn was a talented musician and singer and took her training at Brandon College before getting married. She won the Rose Bowl in Virden for her creative talents.



Evelyn is predeceased by her husband Don Lackie, her special needs daughter Linda, her mother Violet (Babe) and father Lawrence Markey, sister Joyce Markey, in-laws, Edna and Alex Lackie, Isobel, Cliff, Wilfred, Grant, Lori, Margaret, and Martha, numerous cousins and friends, and her favourite cousin Margaret (Lloyd) Bowles of Elkhorn.



Evelyn is mourned and greatly missed by her daughter Susan Lackie of Brandon, Manitoba, son Brian Lackie of Leduc Alberta; granddaughters Cheryl, Melissa, and Lauren Lackie of Edmonton and her great-grandson Ethan Lackie; and her nephew Brad Graham who checked up on her monthly.



She will be forever remembered by cousins Sharon (Allen) Pedlow and family; Bev Bowles; Lorrie Bowles; Sally and Delbert Bowles and family; Gary Bowles; Rodney Bowles and family; and nieces and nephews and cousins in Alberta and BC.



Special regards to her close friends John and Phyllis Finlayson, Elsie McNish, Myrna Barabash; Adria Wisman of Calgary; her many friends at Village Green; and John (Liz) Younger of Kelowna, BC. She will also be remembered by the Oil Wives of Edmonton and Calgary.



Special thanks to Hillcrest Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to Mom.



Memorial donations in Evelyn’s name may be made to Brandon Community Options Inc., 136-11th Street, Brandon Manitoba, R7B 4J4, in memory of her special needs daughter Linda.



Mom will be with Dad and Linda again in Calgary, Alberta.
