With sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Heather Carmichael at the age of 78 on November 1, 2023 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Heather was born in Portage la Prairie to Charlie and Lillian Oliver. She received her education at Prince Charles School and Portage Collegiate Institute then went on to become a medical secretary.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Jack Carmichael, and her parents, Charles and Lillian Oliver. Heather is survived by her three brothers-in-law, Ron (Mary), Reg (Alana) and Ken (Deb) Carmichael, as well as many nieces, nephews, and her friend family.
Heather was a Member of Sphinx 116 Daughters of the Nile and Khartum Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed being with friends, loved to cook, and do crafts especially with her quilting group. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
A private graveside service is being planned at Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Foundation of Portage & District, 206 Saskatchewan Ave. E, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K9, the Khartum Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 420 Corydon Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0N8 or the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Unit M001, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.

Heather and I used to work side by side in the medical world, for about 10 years, back in the 1990s. Quite by accident, we were both golfing together this summer at Tuxedo, and she reached out to me for a conversation at lunchtime after the game. It was lovely to see her and reconnect after 20 years. Such a pleasant rendezvous with a lovely woman, friend and co-worker. So I was very saddened to see her familiar image and that she had passed.
