CHERIE LOUISE GRIFFITH
With heavy hearts and deep sadness the family shares that our mom, Cherie, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2022, in White Rock, BC.
Briefly survived by her husband Jim, Cherie was predeceased by her mother, Iris, brother Robyn (d. Marie) Hull and daughter Crystal Meadowlark. She is survived by her brother Lloyel (Shirley) Hull, sister Delaine (Farrell) Fleming, daughters, Gae VanSiri and Brenda Willman (Frederick), son Jay Willman (Kathi), granddaughters, Nina (Mike) and Kelsey (Riley) and great-granddaughter Lake, as well as stepdaughters, Kathy Remple (Tony) and Kelly Griffith (Darwin), stepsons, John Griffith and Jim Griffith (Anna), step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Paul), Daniel (Janna), Nicole (Wade), Veronica (Jesse), Darien, Cale, Cynthia (Caleb) and Davis, step-great-grandchildren, Celest, Ari, Emma and step-great-great-grandchild Aubrey; several nieces and nephews, and much loved Sophie, the cat.
Cherie grew up in St. Vital, Manitoba, where special family times included train rides to Grand Beach and where she was active at the local community club and school. As a young married mom, even on a tight budget she made sure we kids enjoyed a variety of activities. She sewed our costumes, coached baseball, and attended our dance recitals and gymnastic competitions. She also stayed involved in her community, serving as a Trustee for the Brooklands School Division, and becoming one of the first to move her family into Willow Park Housing Coop.
Beginning as a cashier in the basement of The Bay in Winnipeg, Cherie readily took the opportunity to train in new technologies. Pushing the envelope in her personal and professional life, she moved to work first in Yellowknife and then Fort McMurray, where she became a Senior Systems Analyst for Syncrude Oil, and where she met Jim, the love of her life. They retired to White Rock, BC, together enjoying the west coast and for a number of years also explored the country in their RV, visiting friends and family along the way. Mom was a quick thinker, avid reader, skilled knitter, and loved nature. She and Jim were figure skating super fans and took in many BC Lions football games.
Family were a comfort to mom in her last days, and a thank you to the staff of Ward 4N, Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock for also making mom's final days as comfortable as possible.
Cherie and Jim's ashes will rest together at the Ford Family Cemetery, on the southern tip of Hornby Island, in an area originally homesteaded by Jim's great-grandparents.
