GORDON SALTNER
We are saddened to announce that Gordon Saltner, otherwise known as Dad and Papa, passed away on October 30, 2023. He was born on March 21, 1932, and was predeceased by his parents, Micheal and Veronica Saltner. He was also predeceased by two of his daughters, Rhonda and Kelly.
He married the love of his life Irene on May 26, 1956, and they were married for almost 67 years before her passing this past February. He missed her tremendously and we take comfort knowing she was waiting to greet him with open arms. They had a long loving life raising three daughters, Michelle, Rhonda and Kelly (Dennis), and they were always very proud of them. They were also very proud of their grandchildren, Alan, Kevin (Chloe), Corissa (Jordan) and Tyler (Laura), and great-grandchildren.
Gordon spent his working years as an Engineer for CN. He would always talk fondly of this career and was proud when two of his grandsons followed in his footsteps.
Gordon loved to do golf, he had been a member at Rossmere Country Club for many years, and was able to share this interest with his grandsons. Some of his last conversations with them involved chatting about the sport they loved so much, as well as memories made while growing up and of course his wife and the wonderful life they had built together.
Gordon touched many lives, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Gordon spent his working years as an Engineer for CN. He would always talk fondly of this career and was proud when two of his grandsons followed in his footsteps in taking up careers at CN as well.
One of the things he loved to do was golf, which he did for most of his life until he was physically not able to anymore. He had been a member at Rossmere Country Club for many years and was able to share this interest with his grandsons. Some of his last conversations with them involved chatting about this sport they loved so much, as well as memories made while growing up, reminiscing about the past, and of course his wife and the wonderful life they had built together. Another activity Gordon and Irene both loved was hosting parties, and dancing to polka music, which will be fondly remembered by their family.
Gordon was a kind, gentle man and would always be sure to crack a joke at just the right time, tell you how beautiful you were, or simply just give you a phone call to check in.
A private family graveside ceremony has taken place.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to CancerCare Manitoba, or simply showing an act of kindness to someone you love in Gordon’s memory, as he did so many times.

Sorry to hear of Mr. Saltner's passing. They were great neighbors for the 18+ years we lived by them. Take care all, Jim and Cheryl Taylor - Posted by: James (Jim) Taylor (Old neighbor and classmate of Michelle ) on: Nov 12, 2023

Saddened to read the passing of Gordy and (prior) Irene. I had the pleasure of calling them on their wedding anniversary due to the Free Press announcement. It was wonderful to catch up and share a few stories with them from my youth. My heart goes out to their family. Take care.
