Raymond Charles Sanford, known to many as Coal, was born June 8, 1947, in Eriksdale, MB to Alfred and Violet Sanford. Raymond contracted polio when he was six years old, and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He was still able to go to University, and obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree. Ray always pushed the envelope, and lived life at a level most people never dream of.
Raymond is survived by sisters, Beatrice, Marsha, Mildred, Marilyn, and Melody; brother Allen, and a multitude of nieces and nephews including special nieces, Donnica and Stephanie, as well as pseudo-daughter Angela Storme.
He passed peacefully November 9, 2023, in Winnipeg, MB.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

I think it was Ray’s 21st birthday. I drove him to a bar in St. Vital were Ray St Germain was playing. They sang Happy Birthday to him. People sent over drinks. My close friend was the bartender that night, which is why we went there. He helped us navigate. We got back to the hospital and night staff were waiting with an iron lung.
