It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donn (Donavin, Donny, Dad) Charles Poitras, who left this life peacefully on November 20, 2023, at 11:07 p.m. He was 59.
Donn is survived by his three sons, Cameron (Skye), Shane (Anne-Marie) and Colton (Anna). He is also survived by his mother, Betty (Raymond); his father Rolly; step-father Ken (Carol); and his brothers, Ed (Kathy), Norman (Debbie), Kip, Todd; and sister, Jill (Colin).
He was a member of another family, the Tetlocks, Dave (Chris), Tom (Andrea), Lianne (Joe) and Jackie (Vick) who loved him unconditionally.
Donn also is survived by numerous cherished uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and too many friends to count. He was predeceased by his brother, Marty.
Donn was born on March 24, 1964, in Winnipeg. He made his living as a locksmith and was the owner and operator of Surelock Safe & Lock for many years before he retired.
Donn loved all animals, but he had a special place in his heart for cats, which he made sure to pass on to his children.
Over his many health challenges, Donn never for a second lost his sense of humour and loved to laugh. It seemed no matter what was thrown at him, he was the first one to joke about his situation with a smile. His children, family and friends will greatly miss and cherish the endless moments of laughter the most.
He was adored by everyone he met. Everyone loved Donn and he loved everyone.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27th, at Gilbart Funeral Home at 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk, Manitoba, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donn's name to 'The Kidney Foundation of Canada' or 'Diabetes Canada'.
