PATRICIA MACINTOSH

(nee DESLAURIERS)

The family of Patricia MacIntosh announce with sadness her passing, on November 22, 2023.
Cremation has taken place.
Pat was born in Montreal on March 10, 1948, the first daughter of Mary Connon Deslauriers and Jean-Jacques Deslauriers. She grew up in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Toronto before settling in Montreal. In the late 1970s she attended the wedding of friends in Winnipeg, where she met Ted MacIntosh; it was for her a coup-de-foudre that determined the rest of her life. They married in 1980, and Pat moved west to make a life with Ted. Their daughter Andrea was born in 1985, and son Ian in 1988.
Pat’s family was central to her life. She and Ted made a home in Winnipeg, and another in Victoria Beach. They raised their children together, and Pat took pleasure and pride in them from their birth. In recent years she and Ted welcomed five grandchildren, who added great joy and extra liveliness to the mix. Pat loved summers spent at Victoria Beach with family and friends, in view of the lake and surrounded by trees, birds, and the occasional bear.
Pat had a fulfilling career providing administrative support in clinical settings, beginning at the Montreal General Hospital and ending at the Health Sciences Centre of Winnipeg, where she worked for many years in the Pediatric Respirology unit of the Children’s Hospital. Her organizational skills and capacity for empathy, especially with junior medical staff and patients, gave meaning and significance to her work. On retirement she volunteered with the palliative care service of St. Boniface Hospital, helping to support people in the final stages of their lives.
Pat was a model to many in her courage and dignity during her illness. Pat is loved and held in memory by her husband of 43 years, Ted; her children, Andrea (of Winnipeg) and Ian (of Grandview, Manitoba), and their partners, Jordan Pang and Kayla Luky; her grandchildren, Grace, Ruby, Forrest, Mavis, and Etta; her siblings, Peter, Eric, Marguerite and Jacqueline; and many friends and neighbours.
If friends so desire, a donation could be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Pat’s family would like to sincerely thank them, along with the chemo nurses and the Palliative Care staff for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Pat on December 9, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  • My heartfelt condolences to Ted, Andrea, Ian and families - Pat was a soft spoken, kind, trustworthy friend. She always flew under the radar, you could count her. Pat put others before herself and has comforted me in my time of need, even though I should have been comforting her. Pat you were an awesome friend even though we didn’t see each other as often as I would have liked we always picked up wherever we left off.
