Peacefully, on November 21, 2023 in Ottawa at the age of 76.
Geoff is predeceased (2016) by his wife of over 37 years and love of his life, Micheline whom he met following his move to Montreal.
Survived in Winnipeg by his sister Barbara; niece Jennifer (Gary) Magnan; three great-nephews, Ethan, Noah and Seth and a great-niece Miriam. In Ottawa, nephew J-F Leduc; two great-nieces, Danielle and Chantal; and in the UAE, niece Alexandra (Clay) Cochrane and two great-nephews, Avery and Tyson. He also leaves his goddaughter Christine Crites (Josh) in Cochrane, AB, and sister-in-law Odette (Art) in Ottawa.
Geoff was born October 3, 1947 in London, England to Herbert and Marjorie Wormell (née Hocking). The family immigrated to Canada in January 1949 to settle and live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Geoff attended Grant Park High School and the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1970 with a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering. He later completed his Masters in Business Administration from McGill in 1990.
Geoff was a Mechanical Engineer who specialized in steam and gas turbines. He worked on various hydro projects in northern Manitoba before accepting a position with CI Power in Montreal in 1973 where he remained until 1987. He worked several years with Simons Ltd. in Montreal and eventually was employed with SNC Lavalin Inc. in 1999 until retirement in 2012 as Director of the Thermal Power Division in Montreal. His career took him all over the world.
Geoff had an affinity for the outdoors, starting with his family cottage on Lake of the Woods, and later purchasing his own cottage in the Laurentians,where he enjoyed swimming, fishing, entertaining friends and family, or simply enjoying peaceful times with his wife.
Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Kelly Funeral home, 2370 St-Joseph Blvd., Orleans, ON and January 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral home in Winnipeg, MB, where he will be interned with his wife.
