VALERIE MARIE WEST

May 4, 1948 - December 1, 2023

It is with great sadness and love that we say goodbye to Valerie, who passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital on Friday, December 1, 2023.
Valerie was born May 4, 1948, and lived in St. Boniface her entire life. She attended Precious Blood School from kindergarten to grade twelve. She loved St. Boniface, and it was difficult for her when she had to sell her home and move to a care home in Linden Woods this past year.
Valerie was predeceased by her parents, George and Florence Sul, and her husband, Rick, who she always said was the love of her life and her best friend.
Valerie is survived by her brother-in-law, Bob; sister-in-law Kathy (Jim); brother-in-law Cliff Neiser; sister-in-law Shirley West; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends that she and Rick used to call their "Fake Family".
Valerie was employed by Legal Aid Manitoba from 1974 until her retirement in December of 2006. It was there that she met some of her best friends, and these friendships continued up until her passing. Valerie lived in the Norwood Flats for 50 years and was very fortunate to have had wonderful neighbours and friends who cared for her and helped her after Rick's passing.
In keeping with Valerie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at E.J. Coutu & Co. Funeral Home, located at 680 Archibald Street.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Valerie may be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We will miss you Auntie Val. The most delightful memories of you were the Friday night get togethers with everyone. The stories you would share with us; growing up, meeting Uncle Rick, and your 'extended family', work and the entertaining day to day happenings in yours and Uncle Rick's lives would keep us all entertained and when warranted, fill the table with laughter. We will always fondly remember you Auntie Val, your kindness and laughter. Say "Hi" to Uncle Rick, BIG HUGS to both of you. We love you very much.
