JOHN WILLIAM (BILL) MCDONALD
We sadly lost our loved one and is on his journey to a far better place.
Bill was a quiet gentleman and a wonderful soul who earned respect and friendship from so many. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sharon, of 63 years marriage and his four children whom he loved dearly, Shannon (Bob), Deryl, Shelly {Ray} and David (Lisa).
Our family continued to grow blessed with grandchildren and he loved them so much - Melissa (Tyler), Jenna (David), Andrew (Megan), Brandon, Brae, Dakota (Jaydin), Dylan and one great-granddaughter Ophelia with another arriving in May 2024; Bill's sister Arla (Ray), brother David and a sister-in-law Joan, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Edward McDonald and mother Myrtle (Hamilton) McDonald, sisters, Jean, Shirley and brother Donald.
Bill retired from MTS in 1991 after 39 years of service as a journeyman, lineman and cable splicer. He worked in the office on Ellice Avenue for five years but wanted to get back outdoors doing the job he loved and he did until his retirement.
The family spent many years at Brokenhead River Park near Beausejour in the 'Scottish Circle" and enjoyed the wonderful times spent together with families and good friends.
He belonged to the Prince Edward #81 Legion Golf and Curling Clubs for many years.
He is at peace now without pain or suffering and was an Angel here on earth.
"Reminiscence's are wonderful memories like photos placed in the heart and there they remain forever."
"PUMPKIN" You will be missed but always loved and never forgotten.

I met Bill when I worked in Selkirk. He was such a wonderful man! He was always smiling and so jovial. I even played on his team for MTS curling bonspiel! We had quite a few laughs that day! My deepest condolences to the family! - Posted by: Laurance Schmidt (Co worker) on: Feb 11, 2024

The first time I ever saw Bill he was “up a pole!” He was Arla’s brother and working in the Grahamdale area. We got to know him and always was great to see him and visit! Always had a smile! Condolences to the family from the Gall family! Hugs, Doris. - Posted by: Doris Gall Wegwitz (Friend) on: Dec 26, 2023

To Shannon, Deryl, Shelly, and David, I was so sorry to hear of your dad's passing, may he rest in peace. To Mrs. McDonald, I have so many wonderful memories of spending time at your home while growing up. I am sure I started knocking on your front door at about age three. Often it was Mr. McDonald who opened the door and with a chuckle would say, come on in stretch. I never got tired of hearing that nickname, or being teased like I was part of the family. I was blessed to have had your both in my life for so many years. Mr. McDonald will be greatly missed and please know that your family is in my thoughts at this difficult time. - Posted by: Connie Kirton (Dempster) (Family friend) on: Dec 24, 2023

My Grandpa was a very kind man. I have many wonderful memories going to Lockport in his red car. We would go out with Grandma and my little Brother Brandon and look at the water falls through the canal. We would then go to McDonalds and I would always get a happy meal with orange drink, sometimes they would give me orange juice which always tasted so sour when I was expecting my sweet orange drink. Grandpa always rectified the situation. He was a kind and patient man and I always loved being in his calm presence. He shown me that this type of man exists in this world. He loved to go for his walks, he loved his big comfy chair and sometimes he would let me sit in it, I always felt so high off the ground. My little brother Brandon loved to sit in this big chair with grandpa and would use grandpas belly as a pillow, over the years he lost weight so his tummy wasn’t a pillow anymore but the cuddles always felt the same. I never saw him loose his temper, he always had a smile on his face, and I will miss his contagious laugh. He was a man of not many words but had a full heart. He will be missed. As the tears toll down my face I know he is in a better place now and that will give me comfort. Love you Grandpa. - Posted by: Melissa Bazuniuk (Grand Daughter) on: Dec 09, 2023

My memories are of a kind man, who loved and supported his family and cherished his wife. Growing up in my early teens, the McDonald home in Elmwood on Cobourg was our place to be, especially on the weekends (most Sundays afternoons). Shannon had "the youngest" parents out of our friendship group of four. I always remember Mr. & Mrs. McDonald doing everything together. Mr. McDonald was always pretty quiet and would just sit back and chuckle, when Mrs. McDonald was giving us gals a talking to about being more lady like! The odd time he would say, you girls should not have done that and shake his head, the whole time with a smile on his face. That is how I will remember him, with a smile on my face. Shannon to you and your entire family, I am so sorry for your loss and may your Dad be at rest, your Mom find comfort in the memories of the life they built together and wishing you all peaceful acceptance in the days ahead. Respectfully, Diane Zarrillo Bohun. - Posted by: Diane Zarrillo Bohun (Family Friend) on: Dec 09, 2023

I worked with Bill at MTS out of Selkirk for many years at the beginning of my career. He was always friendly and fatherly to me. I looked forward to being with him on various jobs and enjoyed coffee time in Petersfield. One fond memory I have is his boycotting the restaurant at the Petersfield Hotel restaurant when coffee increased in price from 40 to 60 cents per cup. I’m sure he will be missed by all. - Posted by: Jeff Lane (Coworker ) on: Dec 09, 2023
