JAMES CHARLES GALLEY

May 10, 1949 - November 20, 2023

With broken hearts we announce Jim's sudden passing from cancer.

Jim will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Terry (nee Moore); his son Ryan (Lisanne); daughters, Lindsay (Jen) and Leah (Jonathan); grandchildren, Lily, Duncan, Wyatt, Grady, and Isla; his brother Gerry (Gerdy); his brother-in-law Jim Moore; and nieces, Jackie and Janelle.

Jim was born in Barrie, Ontario into an Air Force family. Jim grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia, Baden and then Zweibrücken, Germany, Summerside, Prince Edward Island, and finally Rivers, Manitoba where he finished high school. Though Jim's Mum and Dad were transferred to Quebec after high school, Jim elected to stay in Manitoba where he met and married Terry, and forged lifelong friendships from Rivers and his time at the University of Winnipeg.

Helping Mom raise three kids in a world he filled with opportunities, Dad was a real estate appraiser by trade, working in commercial real estate at the City of Winnipeg and then Colliers until his retirement. Dad took great pleasure in simple things, rough-housing, playing with our Schnauzers, athletic pursuits, and doing all manner of projects of his design, big and small. We fondly remember his stories of playing badminton at HMCS Chippawa, of all the small places Dad enjoyed lunches from all over the world, and of planning and procuring all things renovation with Darryl and Peter. Dad welcomed many of our friends into his life as one would treat family. The greater the number of people there were in the kitchen, or in the lake and on the dock, the happier he was to sit and be around it. Just don't ask him to get in the water.

In retirement, summers of hard work and fun family time at the lake were followed by autumn travels in Europe, then winters in Texas surrounded by another wonderful community of friends watching Jets games, making stained glass windows, carving, more renovations, day tripping to Mexico, and riding his Harley with Nana.

Grandpa's greatest joy was his family. He resolutely, and even stubbornly did everything he thought would enrich the lives of those around him. Grandpa and Nana's cottage at Betula Lake is a wonderful example of how Grandpa poured his heart and soul into things for those he loved. He also taught us, by example, that we can learn anything, do anything we put our minds to, and he made our small slice of the world much better by the experiences he helped provide.

In keeping with his disdain for attention and formalities and his love of family get-togethers and other casual social occasions, a 'family dinner' has been held in lieu of a funeral at Dad's request. Cremation in care of E. J. Coutu & Co. has taken place in accordance with his wishes.
