CATHERINA KRAMER

(MEYER)

Cathy was reunited with her loved ones when she passed from this earth into heaven thanks to the saving grace of the Lord Jesus. On December 8, 2023, Cathy was attended to by several of her children and spouses who kept vigil for some time before she slipped into eternity during the reading of Psalm 23.

Cathy was the second youngest of 11 children and had a humble start being forced out of school after grade five to help run the household while her siblings worked the family’s market garden. Her life was forever changed when she met Al Kramer at a Christian young people’s roller skating event and it was years later that he confessed he was able to bring her home that night after winning a coin-toss. Their marriage was marred early on by the accidental death of their second child, William. In spite of this tragedy, life went on and by the time they left Winnipeg for Woodbridge they had seven children in tow. When the youngest was old enough, Cathy decided to do something for herself and took a job at a Nursing Home which she enjoyed. She even became the union rep and earned the nickname “Norma Mum” after a popular movie of the day. After Al’s passing Cathy moved to Tollendale Village where she enjoyed visits from family/friends and made new friends with her neighbours. She became very close with Betsy next door and they would encourage each other with scriptures, watching online sermons together and sharing about their kids and grandkids. Cathy enjoyed scrabble, current events, crosswords and the culinary arts. She is survived by: one sibling, seven married children, 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews. While not without her faults Cathy, had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. This faith, embraced by all her children, has enabled the family to reconcile much of the past and become stronger, more whole people.

Services were held at the Barrie Covenant Christian Reformed Church on Friday, December 15, 2023.
