JACK WILLIAM MORRISON

October 15, 1945 - December 10, 2023

Jack William Morrison passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023, in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 78, following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Coleen; his children, Jeff and Chad (Laura); and cherished grandchildren, Emily, Sara, Drostyn, and Seth. Also mourning his loss are his brothers, Ron (Janice) and Joe, and sister, Pat, alongside cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Ruth Morrison. Born in Regina, SK, he spent his formative years there, fostering a passion for sports, particularly excelling in track and football. At 23, he moved to Winnipeg, where he met his soulmate, Coleen. Their union began on July 26, 1969, and they made their home in St. James.

For 35 dedicated years, Jack served at Chrysler Canada, actively engaged in UNIFOR, advocating for social justice through numerous labour councils, committees, and leadership roles.

His enthusiasm for sports continued throughout his life, participating in golf, curling, and bowling leagues. He was an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, passionately supporting his team. Jack remained committed to UNIFOR, chairing the retirement committee even in retirement. He and Coleen retired in Lundar Beach, MB, forging enduring friendships while wintering in Weslaco, TX.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Jack's life will be held in the spring of 2024. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate home-care workers and the dedicated staff at Oakview Lodge for their unwavering care and support.

  • On behalf of UNIFOR Local 3003 we offer our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Jack's family and dear friends. Our members are grateful for Jack's guidance and introduction into the CAW. Jack was the guiding light which helped our delegates through the Winnipeg Labour Council as well as to the Manitoba Federation of Labour and the CLC. Jack was not only a great trade unionist but also a great champion for social justice. Jack could not have achieved his ambitions for the labour movement if it were not for the wonderful support of his family. Thank you Jack for a job well done!
