EIKO MOROZUMI

(nee MOTOKI)

It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of Eiko Morozumi on December 6, 2023, at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 73. Eiko, a treasured soul and the beloved wife of Masao, was the cornerstone of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her children, Neil (Michiko), Randy, and Charlotte (Justin); her adored grandchildren, Emma, Trent, Atticus, and Brielle; her loving sisters, Chizuko (Craig) and Michiko (Eiichi); and dear nephews Phil, Nobu and niece Yoko.

Eiko's journey began on August 9, 1950, in Tokyo, Japan, a life marked by resilience, dedication, and unwavering kindness. Moving to Canada in 1974, her career spanned over four decades, commencing at Ichiban Japanese Restaurant in the mid-1970s, where she became known for her exceptional work ethic and warm spirit. Over the next few decades, she worked at several other restaurants and in 2020, she retired from Ichiban, marking the end of a remarkable chapter of loyalty and dedication to her work.

Eiko loved dogs and found immense joy in their companionship and affection. Over the years, she developed a strong bond with each of the family's furry members including Maple I, Chibi, Maple II, Sari, Jenna, and Chloe. Each of these dogs, unique in their personalities and unconditional love, held a special place in Eiko's heart.

A devoted member of SGI Canada, she embraced the teachings of Buddhist Humanism: peace, culture, and education, with a heart full of compassion and kindness. Her commitment to these principles was evident in her everyday actions and the grace with which she treated everyone she met. Eiko's presence was a blessing and her memory a treasure, celebrated and remembered fondly not only by her many friends within SGI Canada but also by those beyond it.

Her spirit, characterized by strength, humility, and love, will continue to inspire those who knew her and live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Canadian Diabetes Association in her memory.
