ANNETTE KAYE

Annette Kaye, our "Ma" and "Baba" passed away on the morning of December 1, 2023, at the age of 93.

She was predeceased by her parents, Faiga and Israel, her siblings, Louis, Sam, and Trudy, her husband Aaron and daughter-in-law Sharon.

She is survived by her children, Saul and Freya, Mark and Michelle, Libby and Ellery, Marvin and Marla, her grandchildren, Laura and Jeremy, Rana and Morris, Sari and Beau, Lyle, Ira, Ashley and Aleesia, Jonathan, Aron, and Renzo, Ethan, Seth, Orly, and her great-grandchildren, Jonah and Rachel, Beckett, Callan, Abbie, Greer, Nathaniel, Jake, Levi, Benji and Ava.

Annette was born on October 30, 1930, in Winnipeg. Her family had recently immigrated from Russia and they were dedicated to helping other newcomers to Canada. Fate stepped in when Aaron Kaye, who would become the love of her life, arrived as a displaced person after the Holocaust and her family gave him a room. Together they shared 43 years entertaining friends, playing cards, and making a life for themselves and their four children. She loved Aaron and through his illness she remained his caregiver and best friend. Our Ma was an amazing homemaker, always with delicious food cooking and impeccable lines in the carpet.

Annette was beautiful, feisty, independent and determined. She was a musician of high caliber although she never formally studied. Her fingers danced on the piano and her voice resonated in the hearts of those fortunate to hear. She welcomed people and animals into her home with laughter and warmth. All those who entered her colourful house were bound to hear colourful language and leave with a full heart, mind, and stomach.

Annette was a woman of immense integrity and beauty who lit up the room. We are very thankful to the staff at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre for their excellent care in her final months. She will be remembered and missed very much.
