BRIAN WILLIAM WHIDDEN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Whidden on December 20, 2023, at the age of 76 years.

Brian will be dearly missed by his loving partner of 23 years, Millie Doherty, his children, Trent (Wendy), Derek, Kristin Carlson, Katelynn Carabella (Cory), Austin and grandchildren, Isabelle and Marisa Carlson and Tyrian and Carmine Carabella. He also leaves to mourn his brother Richard (Holly) and his sister Marilyn Van Walleghem (Brian) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by the Doherty family whom Dad also considered his family.

Brian was born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan on December 25, 1946. The son of a Minister, the family moved through various towns throughout eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba before making their way to Winnipeg. It was here that Brian finished school.

Brian held different jobs throughout his lifetime, but he will mostly be remembered by those close to him as a teacher, educating youth in Reston and Rivers, Manitoba and in communities in Northern Manitoba. When he wasn’t working, Brian liked to keep active mentally and physically. He was an avid golfer and curler through most of his life. He also enjoyed bowling and cheering on the Bombers and Jets. He had a passion for reading and spent countless hours playing cards with family and friends.

Brian was a kind and generous man, who never missed a birthday or the chance to say ‘I love you’. He had a wonderful sense of humour and will be dearly missed by those that were lucky enough to know him.

The family wishes to thank the staff at CancerCare and Riverview Health Centre. Big thanks go to the staff at Grace Hospice for keeping Dad comfortable in his final weeks.

As per Brian’s wishes, a cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
