EMIL JOHN SOHOR

August 3, 1955 - December 16, 2023

My beloved husband, Emil, passed away on December 16, 2023, at the age of 68. I, Sandi (nee Hur), will always cherish his memory, his one-of-a-kind personality, and the more than 42 years we shared together. Also grieving his loss are his cousins, extended family, and many friends.

Emil was a caring son and brother; he was predeceased by his parents, Emil Sr. and Josephine; and his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Lub Manastersky.

Emil was a retired City of Winnipeg fire fighter. In his younger years he was an avid hockey and lacrosse player and was dedicated to the practice of Kempo (martial arts).

The “outdoors” was always a great part of Emil’s life: hunting, fishing, biking, a ‘road trip’ of any kind, or a simple walk (always with a dog, or two, by his side). And not to forget his passion for archery.

Perhaps rough around the edges, he had a huge heart, was a wonderful husband, a great brother-in-law and uncle, and a good friend to many.

A heartfelt thank you to the ambulance crew and ER staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

A celebration of Emil’s life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Holy Eucharist Parish Centre, 460 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg.

In Emil’s memory, and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba, or D’Arcy’s A.R.C. (animal rescue centre).

  • Very sad to learn of Emil Jr’s passing. I knew Emil from our Mom’s close friendship since we were kids. He had his Dad’s work ethic, his Mom’s gift of gab and both parents’ sense of humour. We would bump into each over the years and would share both new and old stories and many laughs like no time had passed. My most sincere condolences to Sandi and the family. - Posted by: Jennie Malloy (Friend) on: Jan 03, 2024

  • Emil was our neighbor for over 30 years. His house was the first house to be built on our street. I shall miss seeing him walking his dog and having long talks with him when he stopped by to say hello. One year, when I was out on a hunting trip, we had a huge snowstorm. Emil came over and cleared our driveway. He told my wife, "I know Herb is hunting and you won't be able to get out of your driveway. "That's the kind of guy he was. Always helpful, even when not asked. - Posted by: Herbert and Heidi Grosshans (Neighbor and friend) on: Dec 30, 2023

  • I am sad to hear of the passing of another of the CPAC hockey boys. I had the privilege to be the assistant coach with Emil's dad Emil Sr. My brother Goose and Emil were team members along with a number of great Nort End kids when they played Juvenile hockey about 40 years ago. We sure had some great times! Rest in peace Emil. - Posted by: Bruno Malis (friend) on: Dec 30, 2023
