It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend Merete Barrager on November 7, 2023. Merete was born in Borup, Denmark on February 19, 1939 and was the only child of Thora and Svend Nielsen. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1968 to marry her pen pal Richard Barrager. Her parents followed in 1974. Merete worked as an underwriter for Wawanesa until she retired. Merete and Richard were avid travellers and owned a home in Barbados for many years.
Merete is predeceased by her parents and loving husband Richard. Left to mourn her loss are her cousins, Frits and Elsa Gramstrup and close friend Grethe Frische both of Copenhagen, Denmark, her dear friends, Merv Nahnybida and Barb Unrau of Winnipeg, nieces and nephews on the Barrager side of the family, and many friends she made over the years.
Thank you to the amazing 5th floor staff at The Poseidon Personal Care Home. You made the last five years of Merete’s life the best they could be.
Cremation has taken place and Merete will be laid to rest at a later date.
