Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAMY MARGARET KOJIMA
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Amy, loving mother and grandmother, who passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day, surrounded by family.
Cherishing her memory are her three sons, Jay (Beth), Dean and Tad (Amanda); eight grandchildren, Maya, Brooklyn, Madison, Sophia, Spencer, Caris, Carter, and Layton; and many nieces, nephews, family and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Alex Stagg and Margaret Johannesson, and her brother, Gary Stagg. Her father endearingly called her "Mickey" as a child, a nickname used by friends and family her entire life.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, she graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1966, and was a devoted nurse in hospitals and nursing homes for decades.
Amy was a foundation of strength and source of encouragement for everyone in her life. Filled with pride, she celebrated big and small accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, often to complete strangers. At times of challenge, hers was the comfort that family and friends sought after. At times of joy, hers was the place they came to share the good news. There were always freshly-baked cookies and handwritten notes in purple ink to mark the moments.
A tireless adventurer, Amy was propelled by a deep interest in cultures and an endless appetite for new experiences. Across the last few decades, she travelled the world extensively, joined by friends and family as she explored six of the seven continents (determined, until the very end, to visit Antarctica so she could "complete the set").
Pragmatic, witty and clever, Amy was committed to truly knowing the people in her life, whether long-standing relationships or new friends. She would lighten heavy moments with her good humor, sometimes even boldly. She was a serious person who helped people not take themselves too seriously.
The family is most grateful to Dr. Bogaert for his unwavering support and deeply appreciates the special visits from her close friends over the past months. A celebration of Amy's life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home at 4477 Main Street in West St. Paul, Manitoba on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm.

I am so sorry to hear of Mickey's passing. I was fortunate to call Mickey my friend for the last 20 years. Mickey spoke frequently and lovingly about all of you…her ‘boys’ and all her special grand kids. We will all miss her. Leslie - Posted by: Leslie Russell (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2024

Friends are the family we select. Being picked was one of the best moments of my life. Mickey and I met in September 1961 on my first day of a new high school. We have been friends for 62 years and have been through lots of ups and downs in life. We travelled to 6 continents together and were always excited about our next adventure. Mickey phoned me every night for the last 16 years after my husband passed away. I miss her. There is nothing more memorable than the sound of Mickey’s laughter. My heart goes out to all her family and friends at this difficult time. - Posted by: Sandi Smith (Friend ) on: Jan 08, 2024

On behalf of the WGH/HSC Nursing Alumni we extend our sincere condolences to Amy’s family and friends. Her nursing classmates remember “Mickey” as a special person; friendly and a real “sweetie”. The tribute highlights those characteristics that she demonstrated throughout her life as a mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend to many. May her family and friends find comfort in all she was and accomplished in her life. Mickey was one of my favourite patients. She always came in with a smile, a funny or sarcastic line which made our whole office laugh. Her stories were always interesting and constantly talked about her loving family. Mickey will be missed by everyone in our office and may the family cherish her memory - Posted by: Marty Greenfeld (Her Dentist for over 40 Years) on: Jan 07, 2024
