SHIRLEY E. KILBURN

(nee DALY)

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023, aged 92, to be everlastingly with her beloved husband Lionel and dear daughter Coleen. 'Mom' to Elaine, Richard (Sally) and Robert (Cathy), Grandma to Stephanie (Michael), Cheryl (Graham), Laura (Terry), Christopher (Nyree), Shannon (Adam), Rebecca and Ryan, GGMa to Ethan, Alexandra, Keira, Quinton, William and Charlotte and Shirley to many friends and neighbours.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1931, Shirley also lived in Sudbury, Toronto, Oakville and Burlington. She met the future love of her life at a YMCA dance in Transcona (Winnipeg), and married Lionel in September 1953. Mom and Dad traveled all over the world together, sampling a wide variety of sites and cultures. But it was at home, with family that Mom really thrived. A devoted wife and mother, Shirley supported her husband in everything and absolutely doted on (aka spoiled) her four children. She created and nurtured a strong and loving family that grew and grew under her caring wing as Mom, Mother-in-law, Grandma, Great-Grandma. Mom absolutely loved being Grandma to each and every one of her grandchildren – tea parties, sleepovers, playing dress-up, shopping trips and countless other entertainments, lovingly and joyfully done with Grandma.

Shirley was a leader and a consensus builder when needed, yet a force to be reckoned with – as in, don't get her "Irish up". She was very community minded – involved with the IODE (chapter president, IODE Shop), WAMIC and OTMH (Woman's Auxiliary and Tuck Shop) among other ventures. She was also socially minded – organizing and hosting bridge clubs, The Crafty Ladies and many neighbourhood parties and events, like Canada Day Softball and Pat-Shan Tournaments (Golf, Curling). Shirley also graciously, and seemingly effortlessly, hosted many business and social functions with her husband Lionel. A warm and welcoming person who fit in with everybody, she was equally at ease with the Boardroom Crowd as she was with our teenage (aka crazy) friends.

Funeral and Memorial Services will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, Oakville on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

We would like to express a huge and warm thank you to all the caring staff at the Village of Tansley Woods (Burlington), for their continued care and support for our Mom and family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Foundation.
