EVELEN DARLENE (CHEVY) ASHBY

January 23, 1991 - December 15, 2023


With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a beloved daughter, granddaughter, goddaughter, sister, aunty, cousin and a friend.

Evelen was born in north Vancouver at the Lions gate hospital to her parents, Robert Ashby and Carol Moose. Evelen was a devoted mother and found serenity when she was with her children. Evelen loved animals and the outdoors, having loved multiple pets throughout her lifetime. Evelen was incredibly close to her mother often referring to her as her best friend in life. Together they hunted, trapped and skinned animals. Evelen cherished these moments and having been able to pass the knowledge onto her own kids.

Evelen was a proud indigenous woman with Cree and Métis heritage, taking pride in her culture. Evelen grew up for most of her life in Eriksdale MB, with her father and siblings. It was here between the communities that she went to school, played baseball had her first job and made many lifelong friendships. Especially out in Lake Manitoba First Nation where she enjoyed spending her free time.

Growing up Evelen liked to play catch with her dad, often challenging him to arm wrestles and wrestling matches. She was always ready to show case her immense strength and her contagious laugh that will be so greatly missed. Evelen was an avid music lover and touched the lives of many, being able to associate a song with their memories of her. Evelen had a special bond with her sister Bonny. Spending there summers bike riding to the surrounding quarries and swimming at Long Point Beach. Together they faced life’s challenges finding strength in knowing they could get through anything with your sister by your side. Evelen always found time to play videos games with her little brother Kyle as a teen and taking her baby sister Echo on adventures before moving.

Evelen spent the later half of her life in British Columbia, having touched the lives of many along her travels through life. It was here where she birthed her two beautiful boys that truly were her pride and joy always referring to them as her heart and soul. Evelen was always strong willed, determined, courageous, kind hearted, and sincere. She wore her heart on her sleeve and was enthusiastic about life. She was a survivor and a protector. In the worst of times she always found a way to smile and make those around her laugh. Above all else Evelen’s greatest joy in life was being a mom, cherishing all of her children with unwavering love and pride.

Evelen is survived by her parents, Carol Moose, and Robert Ashby (Kerry Partaker); godmother Violet Fife; grandparents, Darlene Miller and Terry Ashby; her children, Terri Lee, Brandon, Lyle and Patrick “Jr” Munch; siblings, Bonny Moose, Kyle Ashby, Echo Ashby (Wyatt Land); nieces, Ryleigh Gegenfurtner and Nevaeh Moose; nephew Robert Gegenfurtner; her uncle Brian Ashby (Jocelyn); cousins, Jordan and Jolene Ashby; uncle Leo and aunty Emily Moose; cousins, Rodney, Rose and Damion Moose; cousins, Jeff, Leo and Angelina Tait. Lyle and Brandon Perry.

Predeceased by her best friend Drake Maytwayashing; grandparents, Evelen and Luke Moose; uncles, Richard, Ronald and Ernest Moose; cousins, Robert Moose, Tessa Perry and Jesiah Moose.

Memorial service is planned for January 13th at 1:00 p.m. at the Eriksdale Arena, #2 1st Avenue, Eriksdale, Manitoba, with lunch to follow. Private family burial at Scotch Bay Cemetery at a later date.
