MARLENE VIS

(nee WEHRLE)

February 22, 1938 – January 10, 2024

Our beloved mother passed away peacefully in hospice after a short period battling cancer. After becoming a registered nurse and embarking on her career, including a period as an intensive care nurse, she then got her BA (a natural outcome of her lifelong love of literature) and teacher's license. However, she took a long hiatus from professional duties to devote herself full-time to her family. She was the embodiment of what it means to be a parent, expressing unconditional love and support through both action and words, and an indefatigable capacity to simply listen.

Her three children, William, Louise, and Moira are the grateful recipients of her wisdom and countless acts of kindness and compassion. To her friends, she was the "hostess with the mostest" and was cherished for her ability to extend a warm and vivacious welcome. A devoted wife, married to Peter for 51 years, she exemplified both fortitude and faith.

Mom was exceptionally devoted to her Catholic faith and gave back much of her time to the soup kitchen run by the Missionaries of Charity. She will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren as well as her last surviving sister, Trudy, but we take comfort knowing that as a faithful servant of Christ, she will be rewarded for her effort and devotion. A funeral mass will take place at Holy Cross Catholic church in Burnaby BC on January 19 at 1:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • What a marvelous woman Marlene was, interested in all that life had to offer, intellectually curious, a lover of the arts, and someone with a truly deep understanding of people. She would remember the smallest thing someone would to for her, intimating she had been treated like royalty, making that someone feel beneficient. And what courage! Although she faced many difficulties toward the end of her life, Marlene was never one to complain. She was far more interested in making the person she was talking with feel at home and comfortable. She was about the other person and too seldom about herself. I will miss our conversations over the past 25 years and miss this dear, dear woman. - Posted by: Wynne Cougill (friend) on: Jan 24, 2024
