Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRED HARDY
Surrounded by family, Fred Hardy passed away on January 2, 2024, at the age of 76.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth, daughter Jill, son Robert, daughter-in-law Monica, and granddaughters, Ella and Lydia. Fred will also be missed by extended family and close friends, who he loved to catch-up with on a regular basis.
Fred grew up in Fort Rouge, attending Churchill High School and later graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. He spent most of his career working as an agrologist with the provincial government, primarily in Steinbach.
Fred was passionate about sports and music. He played competitive baseball and squash and was the "music man" at many socials over the years.
First and foremost, Fred was a wonderful family man. He was married to Ruth for over 46 years and supported his kids in all their endeavours. Most recently, he shared his love of music with his granddaughters and threw the best dance parties! His final days were spent reminiscing about family vacations and special times shared together on the golf course. His optimism, strength, and sense of humour will be greatly missed.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army.

Immediately after I submitted the message I realized I had said Robert instead of Fred. I will blame it on my age. My apologies. I do hope you will shake your head and say "Well Jen hasn't changed. She still is forgetful." - Posted by: Jennifer Bragdon (Cousin) on: May 07, 2025

Over the years, I certainly played a lot of golf with Fred. However, the major thing we did together was to play poker. Along with Jim Cumming, Dennis Feir, John McCracken, Jim Thomas, Jim Monzer and, over the years Glen Cook and Myron Zbyradowski, we began playing poker in our teenage years and this has continued on a regular basis until recently - over 60 years. Fred loved cards. Win or lose, he always left smiling. We'll all miss him. - Posted by: Tom Goodchild (Friend) on: Jan 16, 2024

Ruth, Please accept my sincerest condolences and sympathy for your loss. Fred was a real example of a truly decent human being who tried to do his best for his wife and family, and all the people who came into his world. He was fascinated by how life unfolds, and simply smiled in amazement at how some dug holes and others climbed peaks. I have been fortunate to have known Fred, and gained much from his advice and support. Thank you Fred. - Posted by: Andrew Dickson (Colleague) on: Jan 16, 2024

Hi Ruth, our condolences to your entire family; I just read Leslie’s email. Bryan and I often would talk about what a coincidence it was for both of us working with both of you. He enjoyed his time working with Fred and said he actually was at your home. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. - Posted by: Barbara Yusishen (Friend) on: Jan 15, 2024

Fred was a special person for me; almost like a brother. We lived on the same street Morley in Fort Rouge almost straight across from one another. His family was a great influence on my life as his Dad and Fred got me involved in sports. We played hockey, football, and particularly baseball together. As we got older Fred was always there driving me around to various practices and games. We went to the same schools together Lord Roberts and Churchill High School. and part of the same carpool going to the Univ of Manitoba. He was always smiling and very close and supportive as a friend. The only regret I have is when I moved away to Montreal; is that I did not phone Fred often enough over the last 30 years. He has left behind a wonderful family who will miss his beautiful smiling face. Rest in peace my Friend. Love you Myron - Posted by: Myron Zbyradowski (Friend since 1952 ) on: Jan 15, 2024

'Please accept my sincerest condolences and sympathy to Ruth, Robert and Jill, and also to all of his extended family and friends. I know how big of a loss this is to everyone who loved him. I was only fortunate enough to know Fred over the last couple of years, but he made quite an impact. I loved discussing history and politics with him, and really enjoyed hearing his insightful observations on all sports, especially the Jets and the science of the golf swing. No matter the situation, he was always interested and excited about the world, a truly remarkable trait that was really contagious to all those around him. I have nothing but admiration and respect for his positive attitude and outlook he displayed over these years, and the absolute pride and love he had for his son, daughter and granddaughters at all times. I am so sorry for your loss, he will be greatly missed. Sending my love and warmest thoughts to all of the Hardy family. - Posted by: Glen Ford (Family Friend) on: Jan 13, 2024

Dear Ruth, Jill, Robert & family. I was so saddened to hear of Fred's passing. He was truly a kind soul as were his parents Jack & Betty. It is never easy being the one to continue on but the memories of your many adventures will carry you through this difficult time. He was a kind gentle man and will be missed. He also had the most amazing record collection of anyone I have ever known. Please know our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
