BARBARA ANN DAVIES

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear mother Barbara Ann Davies (nee Dougall) on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 89 years.

Barb is survived by her son Kerry (Darcy) Davies of Winnipeg, daughter Cindy Biebrich of Winnipeg, and son Rick (Lynn) Davies of Calgary. She will also be missed by grandchildren Cory, Darryl, Michelle, Jessica, Jordan, Mark, Charlene, Ryan, Sarah, and Matthew along with her 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Louise and brother Bill (Doreen), both of Boissevain, Manitoba as well numerous extended family and dear friends.

Barb was predeceased by her husband Gerald, mother Annie, father Imrie, sister Isobel, and close companion Jim Flecknor.

Barb spent the majority of her adult working life in the public school system in Winnipeg where she developed lifelong friendships with her colleagues, all of which she valued dearly. As her career with the Winnipeg School Division was well established, Barb realized her dream of owning her own business which resulted in the launching of BJ's Ice Cream in Winnipeg. Barb and Jim Flecknor built the ice cream business from the ground up working tirelessly. It was clearly a labour of love with literally thousands of beautiful ice cream cakes hand crafted with pride.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 27, 2024, at Garden Park Baptist Church, 1825 Inkster Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that those who wish, may donate to a charity of their choice in memory of mom.

  • My Favorite Relative “Grandma Barb” My favourite relative is my Grandma Barb. She is 71 years old and lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba with Jim. She is approximately 5 feet, 3 inches tall, has brown hair, brown eyes and wears glasses. She is special to me because she is always fun to be around and is always happy to see me. Grandma Barb loves to make crafts. She does crafts with me and for me. My favourite craft that we did together was making the Ukrainian Easter Eggs. My Easter egg was green, white, orange and yellow. It had a eight point star with vines all around. We also decorated other Easter eggs by pasting pictures of flowers all around and then rolled them in glitter. My favourite craft that Grandma Barb made for me was a clown that was made from old satin dresses and a styrofoam ball covered with fabric for the face. She doesn't make one clown with the same pattern. All of her clowns are unique. Grandma Barb loves when my family and I come to visit. I love going to Grandma Barb house. When ever we go to Winnipeg we always stay with Grandma Barb and Jim. Some of the special times I've had is picking delicious raspberries from her HUGE raspberry bush. Then we make raspberry jam and T even get to take some home! Another time I had that makes my grandma special is in the morning I wake up before everyone and go snuggle in bed with her. While I am in bed with her when she wakes up we talk about what we could do that day that would be super fun. Grandma Barb is my favourite relative because of all the special times we have spent together. Making crafts, jam and our early morning talks are all memories I will keep forever. I Love my Grandma! - Posted by: Davies Family (Family) on: Jan 13, 2024

  • Grandma was the epitome of quiet strength and confidence. If it was easy, she wasn’t interested. Never complained when it was hard. If it was worth doing, it was worth doing well. She’d hand scrub her floors on her hands and knees in her 80s. She knew how to enjoy having fun and working hard. They just don’t make them like her anymore. We’ll all miss her terribly. - Posted by: Darryl Davies (Grandson) on: Jan 13, 2024

  • Deepest condolences to the family. Barbara worked with us in Library Services at WSD from 1969-75, at Lord Selkirk and River Elm Schools as a library clerk. She was a wonderful friend, a conscientious worker, and a positive influence on the students with whom she enjoyed interacting. We always enjoyed her personality on pool team work projects, and her quiet sense of humor. she will be missed by many friends. Gerald Brown, Chief Librarian Retired, WSD. - Posted by: Gerald R.
