MIDORI BRUNS
Midori Bruns (née Matsuo) went home to be with her mother (Shizue), father (Tatsuo), and brother (Fred) on January 15, 2024, at Golden West Centennial Lodge at 96 years of age.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen (Greg) and Rick (Angela); her grandchildren, Midori Jr. (Ace), Aria, Declan, and Nova; siblings, Lee, Sam (Clare), Bob, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Midori was born in White Rock, BC. The family was relocated to Manitoba following the Japanese internment order of the Second World War to work on the sugar beet farms. While such adversity would turn most into a cynic, Midori approached these circumstances with great perseverance and optimism. She developed an unwavering commitment to justice, compassion, forgiveness, and care for others that she maintained throughout her entire life.
As a true renaissance woman, Midori was an exceptional artist, chef, musician, botanist, and seasoned traveller. With paintbrush in hand, she travelled the world with the goal of capturing the most captivating landscapes in all their glory. She found beauty in both the marvellous and the mundane. Her artwork adorns the walls of her loved ones with great renown. A true lover of nature, her home was always adorned with dozens of thriving plants. From her chow mein to her potato pancakes, her cooking was unrivalled and in great demand. An avid reader, Midori was particularly inspired by the works of Thoreau and Cicero, and often wrote short stories and poetry of her own. A natural intellect, she taught herself Latin over the course of a summer in her youth and loved being challenged with a crossword or cryptogram puzzle. She had a profound love for animals, especially cats, and was an avid birdwatcher. Midori's multitudes, alongside who she was as a person, make her incomparable.
Her absence is profoundly felt. In lieu of flowers, donations in Midori's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter.
A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date.

I met this amazing soul 15 years ago on a rehab ward at Deer Lodge Hospital. We were table mates and became dear friends. My wife is a nurse and spent much time with us at meal time. We continued our times together after we went home and enjoyed her appreciation for the finer things in life, one of which was fine cheese. We continue to use her positive greeting every day " I wake up with an Attitude of Gratitude". She shared her faith and love, impacting our lives forever. - Posted by: Larry Buhler (Friend) on: Jan 20, 2024
